Does anyone else feel sorry for Paris Hilton?
Comments (44)Well, looks like Larry King gets her... and it looks like he isn't paying her either. There was so much bad publicity, (about interview costs) she realized she wouldn't get to tell her side unless she did it for free.. quote- BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Jailed socialite Paris Hilton will give her first post-prison interview on veteran CNN newsman Larry King's show on Wednesday, the cable network has confirmed. King would interview Hilton in a one-hour special on Wednesday, just 24 hours after the 26-year-old star is released from prison in Los Angeles, a spokeswoman said Saturday. The show, "Larry King Live," does not pay for interviews. I also saw that People may have an interview, not sure if it's still on. The photos were $300,000... Would be nice if she would donate the money to help drunk drivers... Here is a link that might be useful: news article...See MoreAnyone else commit a major layout crime? Or is it just me?
Comments (12)Rookie, the so-called rules can make good guidelines to consider in many situations. When following them can cause problems and/or the wrong sacrifices, though, they're worse than worthless and really need to be ditched--just like your worry about some horrible nonproblem in what sounds like a very nice kitchen. My aisle between work island and stove counter is also 34 inches, very much on purpose since I wanted an efficient main workspace. It works very well, and I'm pretty sure no one's ever noticed (the counters are also 35 inches high). My defining issue was keeping it as narrow as possible while still being able to step around a hot open undercounter oven door to baste, etc. The standard "rules" were totally wrong for me and my space, so I set up a sawhorse-and-4x8-plywood island, mounted the oven on some scraps of 2x4s, opened the door, walked back and forth, decided on the space I wanted, and drew a line where the island would go. I measured out of curiosity afterward. Regarding resale, if you're ever visiting upscale open houses, take a tape measure and prepare to be amused, and bemused, at how many so-called "rules" many very appealing and costly kitchens break, especially the one in your and my kitchen. You'll also likely be the only one who notices. :)...See MoreJust curious, does anyone else wash melons before cutting ?
Comments (31)Potatoes: I rinse these to remove dirt and sand. A complete sanitation is not required if these are to be thoroughly cooked at high temperatures. A potato that is eaten raw should be thoroughly cleaned. When I was a child, barn manure was spread on the garden at the start of the season. Potaotes and root vegtables grown therein came in contact with manure. You bet, we washed these before consuming. In my opinion, mellons should be washed before cutting because these are eaten raw. I know, when I was a kid down on the farm, most folks gave it no thought about it. Stray dirt was brushed off the mellon and then sliced without any further cleaning. We probably got by with this practice since the exterior of our own mellons, if comtaminated, was contaminated with local dirt and such, and we probably had natural resistance to some of the local 'dirt'. But we may not have resistance to contaminants on food stuffs transported from distant locations....See MoreAnyone else not liking this "new and improved" houzz thingy?
Comments (85)I'm with prairiemoon2 on the privacy thing. I've already had the creepy experience of houzz emailing me to one email address when I signed up with a different one, and I'm not pleased. I hate the "like" buttons - they seem totally counter to the idea of people actually communicating with each other in a way that goes hand in hand with not being able to reply directly to a comment ("click 'like' instead!"). Bottom line: This new format really represents everything I hate about the social internet (intrusiveness, the feeling of your every move being tabulated and tracked, your method of interaction being subtly manipulated, etc.), most of which GW was blissfully free from in, as slowjane put it, its "web 1.0" way. So, I guess we were lucky for a while, and now I'll either adjust or be gone. And fyi, I did use the like buttons in this thread, but only as feedback for the houzz staff in case they're paying attention to people's reactions to the new site : )...See More- Emily H9 years ago
