Mesquite bean/pod cleanup - tips or tricks?
Comments (24)okay, I looked up mesquite trees on the internet, and don't see any that are south american species. Internet says there are 3 common types which are all native to Southwest US and Mexico, honey, screwbean, and velvet. What type of tree are you talking about? I've actually been wondering about this, because mesquite grows around here as a wild big shrub, but also as a fairly large landscape tree, and I didn't know if that was a species difference, or just as a watering difference....See MoreTips, tricks and lessons you have learned
Comments (31)I enjoyed re-reading all of these. I have a couple more tips. If you don't have a full 8 hours of full sun, but do have 4-6, and you want tomatoes, plant them anyway. Your yields won't be as good, but I've found this year that if you prune the plants, you will get a decent number of large tomatoes. I'm not preserving my tomatoes in any way, so this only applies if you want a few tomatoes to eat. There are a lot of lovely veggies and edible plants that will grow in partial shade, so do your research and you can still grow veggies and edibles without a full-sun spot. Eat your sweet potato leaves. They are yummy. The tender tips are good raw and the older ones cook up well. The tubers will still form, even if you use some of the leaves. Most ornamental sweet potatoes don't have edible leaves (they taste horrible). I use regular sweet potatoes as ground cover just so I can eat the leaves. I never dig the ones in the ornamental beds, and they come back every year, providing ground cover, food, and a never-ending supply of slips for the edible beds. If you have earthworms, cultivate them by giving them lots of organic matter to eat. If you don't have earthworms, get some. They are nature's little fertilizer factories. You can buy red wigglers from just about any bait shop, or go out into the woods early in the morning and dig some up. They are abundant here in FL. Grow flowers! Even in veggie beds, they attract pollinators and better than that, they feed your soul. That's all. Lots to do today since we're having what I hope is our last freeze tomorrow....See MoreTips and Tricks
Comments (77)Ravencajun - I'm not sure how putting my tag in the URL will work for me bc.t he way I am tagging is to tag potentially 3-20 items (bookmarks) for one person's gifts. So let's say I have found 14 items that I might want to get my mother-in-law (Mary). If I tag Mary, there are 14 items with that tag. So if I type Mary in the URl, I wouldn't think it would bring up 14 sites. I guess it depends on how you use tags. I'm using them to store groups of ideas for a single tag. Another use I plan to try soon is to categorize recipes this way. So I might have a tag that gives me the recipe source (cooking forum, barefoot contessa, magazine etc.), and also by type (like appetizer, salad, vegetable, entree) and perhaps by specific ingredients. So when I go back to search, I'm not trying to bring up just one bookmark, but the entire group of bookmarks I've made for that category. I have also wanted to get Foxmarks to sync my bookmarks across computers, but I read one review that made me hesitate. It suggested that Foxmarks could sell this information - for companies that want to follow market trends, etc. Do you have any concerns about that information being stored someplace other than your own computers? Another question I have in terms of security with foxmarks is that it would be very handy to store information - passwords, address, phone, etc that I have to enter each time I fill out information on line. But again, I wasn't sure what was safe and what wasn't. Any guidelines as to what information you would safely store in foxmarks? Thanks. Lynn....See MoreNew Tips and Tricks for Vegetable Growers
Comments (3)My partner has found that along the highways where new plants are being placed they leave the containers (often sent to the landfill after) that just need to be cleaned and can be reused. They're usually 5 gallons and above. Perfect for container growing....See More- 10 years ago
