Houzz so far...
Comments (134)Harry - All's forgiven. You've always been one of my favorite curmudgeons. ;) Just a note to everyone about the worry about rights and ownership of content. Houzz's terms of use is really no different than most websites -- it's pretty standard boilerplate language. GardenWeb's terms were nearly identical. Basically, it means that you will always own your photos, but if you post them on the site, Houzz has the right to use them. Some of you might remember a similar brouhaha when NBC acquired GW. I know that it sounds a bit scary, but it really isn't. GardenWeb would feature photos on Facebook or in FAQs or on the side rail of the site. That eye candy is what hooks people! ;) Also, search engines - like Google - are pretty efficient. They have robots that crawl sites and index information constantly and that's why you will see your photos out there so quickly. GardenWebbers have always been so generous in sharing your knowledge and photos and I hope that you'll continue to help others in this way....See MoreSo far so good, everybodys happy
Comments (12)Those daisies are asters also known as a montauk Rose. The lower lights are florescent and give off heat, they heat the rootstock and help start the process of soil drying, and keeping the soil close to room temperature. My readings say I am usually within 2 degress of 72 to 74 air temp. they are timed to come on one hour before before the upper cool LED lights come on. Although I'm about to construct a Steve Bucket Light or two....I have 3 babies that are really meant to go outside permanently...See MoreFebruary 2019, Week 2, Planting Time Is So Close....And, Yet, So Far
Comments (60)Kim, Prayers for fast healing for you. Bon, Where would we be without our beloved OK Mesonet? It has all the most helpful info in so many different formats. I just love it. I'm glad Bill made it home in time to chop wood. Hopefully that wood will keep the stove fed and keep you all toasty warm. Maybe you coulda/woulda/shoulda been chopping wood, but we know that it wouldn't feed your soul the way that gardening does, so we totally get it. Your wind chill was bad and it was bad so much earlier than ours. The cold front didn't make it this far south until tonight, but we're plenty chilly now. Megan, If you need some time to just chill, then allow yourself to do that. I think when our bodies are telling us what it needs, we need to listen. With a three day weekend, you should have adequate time for chilling and seed starting. Enjoy your holiday weekend. dbarron, Maybe the cat and dog were just playing and neither is too much of a fraidy cat? I'm glad you got the car into the garage so you won't have to chisel ice off the windshield later. The plants don't seem as bothered by the cold as we do. I guess that's because they are out in it 24/7 and are somewhat better adapted to it perhaps. Rebecca, I hope the procedure went well and that you and your mom made it home just fine. Y'all, the models look like somebody is going to get some snow next week, but I do not necessarily think it will hit many of us unless something changes. We have an unexpected, last-minute bonus weekend with the older granddaughter this week as her dad is unavailable for his weekend with her. Well, his loss is our gain and we're going to enjoy having her here with us, though she might climb the walls a little bit without her little sis around to play with. Of course, we can do things we don't do when little sis is here, like maybe go to a more mature movie (something not G-rated) or to a restaurant that little sis doesn't like. Tomorrow will be just her day and she's already voiced her opinion on where we should eat lunch. : ) Before they called to see if she could come stay with us, I had thought I might do a little plant shopping or something tomorrow but I think instead we'll do something she'll enjoy. It still is pretty chilly to be buying plants, especially since the cold weather doesn't want to go away. I'm ready to do some gardening, but the weather isn't really right for it yet, especially with the persistently soggy soil. Dawn...See MoreSo close....but yet so far....
Comments (22)@lauracam "How do you all manage to navigate all the other stairs and uneven surfaces in the world???" This is what ableists ask and if we thought this way we'd have no ADA to speak of. You remind me of the guy who parked his truck over the sidewalk and when I asked him what he thought I should do, if I were disabled, to get around his truck - he motioned in a manner that looked like pushing a wheelchair off the sidewalk into the street and back on the sidewalk down the way. I'm 46 and starting to have challenges with some uneven situations (although I hike every weekend). I would hate this setup because there's not enough room to steady myself going up or down. Stepping from wood flooring to a potentially wet bathroom flooring means I need to consider reaching out to the sink (equally slippery). There isn't much space to maneuver around to get to the toilet. Yeah, some of us think about elevations, floor types, entering/exiting rooms, sidewalks, stairs more than others because we're injured, have lifelong impairments or coming of age (which could be 20 or 80)....See More- Emily H9 years agolast modified: 9 years ago
