Hi, I have marble bathroom counters, floor and shower enclosure. It is travertine in a beige color. Not my favorite thing, but the house came with it and it is extremely difficult and expensive to change so I decorated the rest of the room to bring out the best. It turned out nicely. The problem is that, when my 17 yo dd was cleaning the bathroom, whe used a chemical on the sink that took away the rust stain. She was so excited she put it on the counter and the shower walls and floor where there were also rust stains. Now, the surface is no longer the "honed" smooth it was, but a rough scratchy surface everwhere where the chemical was. Is there any way to restore this surface? It is a small area of the counter, but a HUGE area in the shower. It seems like as it is it is a bad surface to keep disinfected, especially in a bahtroom. I welcome suggestions, please! Tub and tiles reglazed and SEALED and within 5 months, the grout on 1/4 of the walls, turns yellow every day. I have 9 levels fused in my spine, so I physically cannot toothbrush this problem anymore. I had it professionally reglazed so I would not have to use a toothbrush anymore. I think its the towns awful water. It ruined our toilet to the point we had to replace it. It looked like I NEVER cleaned it ever. The plumber said he has "special talets" to get rid of it, but you have to leave the house for a full day, due to fumes. Funny we get a water bill when we have to lug jugs to the spring, for drinking water in Manchester, CT. The "reglazer" is coming back to re-seal but I do not see how that will be helpful. Grout has fallen off and he plans to just re-seal over it, without regrouting. Guaranteed for 15 years and this is his "fix"? Would a dark grey grout hide the yellow?

Ugh you don’t want to do that. See if the sealant manufacturer has a recommendation on a stripper. You need to use a different kind of sealer that doesn’t change the color, you can test it on your leftovers.

I've seen data that a misting jolts humidity but dissipates fast, effectively doing little (I can probably find that again if necessary but...6 days to Christmas, one 14x18 painting to do that's a quarter way done, good luck with that). Certainly syringing data justifies that; evaporation is swift and temperature measurements rebound to environmental norms very quickly (within 15 minutes in overcast conditions outdoors). Indoors, if my addlepated memory serves, something like 45 minutes. Other sources disagree with that. On balance, I'd say mist once a day to several times a week with filtered water in any good atomizer. It can't hurt, helps dust the plant, and dust mites hate it. Don't use hard water; you'll get that white dust on your plants. If you do, wash it off occasionally with a wet cloth. Easy-peasy. A continuous mister, ultrasonic, under the plant would probably work better to constantly inject water into the air around the plant and keep the local humidity up in the area. Putting a water tray with rocks under the plant might help, but I've always been dubious about that one. If they only need a bit of a kick, sure. Or if the plant is very small, absolutely. For a larger plant...not so much. Whole-house humidification would certainly be best, but it's impractical and not all that healthy to keep humilities at fifty percent during the winter... :-)
