This beautiful little girl really surprised us- we hoped we would catch a feral cat that has been hanging around. Of course we let this little fox go free right away. Did you know that foxes can bark like a dog? She hissed and growled too. Min

Isn't it wonderful to see the wildlife? I also love your sculpture. He's very serene. I have a granite owl my daughter gave me along with a few other 'donations' from family who know I love to garden.

Back a few years ago I had a family of foxes who had a den in the spring. The mating pair produced three kits and every morning between 5 & 6 a.m. they'd romp and play down near my blueberry bushes. I got a kick out of watching them.

More like plant killer than a helper! I can only imagine what my yard would like like without him...yet, I can't imagine my life with out him! He's my partner in crime! This is Jasper. I adopted him from the Humane Society at the age of 1.5 & he will be 5 in Dec. He is a mix of White German Shepherd & Pointer. I've gotten really good at throwing the frisbee so he doesn't end up in my garden. The neighborhood kids is another story. He is really good at keeping ALL varmints out & 90% of the time misses every plant on his way to them. My most ironic story is before I got him I never had an issue with rabbits. One fall he caught 1 & killed it. Horrifying listening to that squeal & bones crunching. I couldn't get it away from him & like an idiot called him in the house. He comes in WITH the dead rabbit & plops up on my bed! EEEWWWW! I got him locked up & had to deal with the warm & very flippy floppy rabbit. Ever since, the rabbits have taken revenge on my yard! He WAS trained to stay out of everything that was mulched & that got kaboshed when I realized he needed some shade in the heat of summer. I redesigned a corner of my yard to lead a path under the Japanese Maple to give him some shade. Just recently he has acquired a secret admirer that lives on the other side of that fence...a female Yorkie name Nala that tries to escape to be by him. ="" ="" PS: What size should these pics be so they don't appear so big?

I for sure will, Kay! And yes Maryl, that's so true. I have been in the animal sheltering/rescuing field for a while and have seen all the ugliness and lack of responsibility out there that leads to "bad things happening" with these dogs. It's a shame. Our little wonderbull is the kindest soul ever. I am proud of him, myself and my family, for all of the continuing dedication to give him what he needs to be "one of the good ones." We take it all very seriously and Lego is actually kind of famous in our little corner of the world. We live smack dab in between two towns. One with breed specific legislation, and the other one without. So we have raised him from young pup to be an ambassador for his breed. He is so well socialized and trained that he goes everywhere with us. He walks in the towns parades, goes trick-or-treating, and goes to every animal fundraiser to meet people and educate. He's my little rockstar! but my most favorite thing about him is what a good farm dog he is. the special little feller who takes part in every aspect of what we do in the gardens. the way he rides in the back of the truck when we are hauling brush around the property. The way he hangs out with us when we are tilling for hours at a time, racking, planting, etc. and he respects the beds for the most part. doesnt cross the border stones or the pretty beds, and uses the stepping stones to cross the long daylily rows. he rides in the lawnmower wagon with the kiddo. he's out there with us to take pics and pollinate every morning. he keeps us company while potting stuff up. he's just always there, always being so great. I couldn't be happier to combine my three most favorite things, family, plants, and animals.

I am lucky too - my DH also does all of the physically difficult work in the garden. When, like now, it is time for Fall clean up of finished annuals, etc., he gets more done in way less time than I do. I just tell him what needs doing, and point him. He climbs up a 35 foot ladder once a year to prune and re-support our enormous roses which go 3 stories up our house. The other day I happened to mention that friends were coming over that evening. WIthout saying anything at all, he went out and mowed and edged the lawns, and swept the front walk and the front stairs (our huge Scarlet oaks are starting to drop their leaves, and they can cover the walk with leaves in just a couple of hours). Like Melissa, I have noticed that over the years he has learned a lot about the garden. He now knows what is a weed and what is something I want to keep, and most importantly, to ask if he is not sure. I still purchase and plant (after he has dug any big holes) the plants. He has learned how to prune the old huge roses, and how to train them on the house or garage, although he would deny it if you asked him. I could not have our garden without him. Once, to my astonishment, he asked me if we could get and plant a specific plant in a truly huge pot we had acquired. It is called Heavenly Bamboo around here - I do not know its latin name. It makes huge clusters of tiny red berries. Well, I had planned on putting a rose in that pot, but managed, when I got over my astonishment, to quickly say of course we can, and we did, and it looks fine there. Jackie

I have so many!! We have had lots of rain so I haven’t had to drag the hose around.. My two daughters and their families came today and did a ton of yard work. They always come prepared with chainsaws and such. They get more done in one day then I do in weeks. I use Preem also. It really helps cut back on the weeds. My hubby bought my this toy for Christmas a couple years ago.. I use it every day.. it has a dump bed on the back.One year for Mother’s Day my daughter bought me the neatest small shovel. Hubby put a steel handle in it a couple years ago. I’m a shortie so it is perfect for me. I’m 71 and it gets harder to keep things up but i’m not giving up until I have to. I do all the mowing and it takes me 2 hours. I really enjoy doing it so i’m not complaining. We have a home in Southern Indiana and we are going down there on Monday. Hubby will work in the field and i’ll do.the yard. I love being outside..

You were lucky to be able to see your fox family! We have been here more than 20 years and have never had a sighting so I was thrilled to see this one. We have left a majority of our land wild so they have plenty of places to hide.

Now to try again for that blasted cat!

The stone head came from my parents' home high in the Blue Ridge mountains in NC. There is another- I will get a photo. They were hand-chiseled by someone in the area many years ago. Min

Ha! The raccoons here are so huge I thought they were badgers. I had no idea they got that huge.

If only coons and skunks didn't keep getting rabies here and putting the whole area in a panic. I've had rabid animals in my yard.

Here is the companion stone head to the one I posted earlier, and this one is not as serene- maybe it's the one that scares away bad spirits. I didn't think to name them, like davids10's funny "adam and evelyn" - suggestions?
I have forgotten the name of the potted plant- it didn't like me and didn't last very long though I did try to treat it right.
The old reflective road sign looks wonderfully eerie shining on the porch in the dark. It's one of my favorite goofy spur-of-the-moment purchases.

Good vibes? Serene? To me it looks as if you are ready to use the circular blade to sever the head! It is fun to see the interesting things you have put in gardens, and the funny animal visitors.
