How close can I plant a thuja green giant gg to a chain link fence?
Comments (46)This is a great thread. I am new to this, but finally got my back patio looking great after living in my house for 14 years. I decide to enjoy my new fire pit and realized THIS is my current view. It's probably pretty obvious why I planted these trees, not to mention the loud kids running around in the back yard all day. But after reading a LOT more about these monster trees, I feel like I may have overshot the runway? I planted these 6' off the property line (and 6' apart, not to their trunk center but the edge of the hole...oops) but am still afraid they may grow over the neighbor's yard. There is no fence or other obstruction between our yards (well, except for the, you know.....Dodge Durango!?!) so I am a little concerned about the intrusion in to the neighbor's property. We aren't the best of friends either, so there's that. The trees are about 18" now so won't be an issue for a while, but they are still young enough I could replant if necessary. I included two pictures to show the property line and how much of my yard space I'm giving up (which I am HAPPY to do to eliminate that horrible eye sore!) Any advice on if I allowed enough room for these things?...See MoreLINKS to our word games ...

Honeywell red link suggested
Comments (10)Don't discard the Redlink suggestion too quickly. I can't speak to whether the product line has been discontinued but all the components needed are easily found on the internet. Including through Amazon and from other sellers too. I have two Vision Pro 8000 series thermostats and they work flawlessly. Redlink is the name of the Honeywell (now branded Resideo) proprietary radio frequency system for the wireless communication. About 5 years ago, I replaced two furnaces (located at opposite ends of a long, narrow house) and added AC to each. There was previously no AC so the existing thermostat wires were just two strands and not adequate to control the new systems. The HVAC contractor recommended the Honeywell Redlink system as an easy solution. For one of the systems, pulling a new wire appeared to be potentially problematic and perhaps not worth the trouble. The way they work, an equipment interface module (EIM) is wall mounted at the furnace/coil or air handler location. It's wired to the HVAC equipment as if it itself were the thermostat, but it's not. It uses a low voltage connection to the equipment for its power, as a thermostat would. The EIM communicates with the thermostat over the proprietary Redlink frequency. It's not Wifi. The thermostat, if mounted where the old one was, can use the existing two wire connection for power only. If not, the thermostat can be put anywhere with no wiring required, it can run off batteries alone. For internet and app access, there's a small additional piece of equipment called an internet gateway. It connects to your home router and then provides a signal to the thermostats over Redlink too, as the EIM does. I have one gateway to separately control the two thermostats over the internet using either a browser or an app that's available for both Android and Apple IOS. I couldn't be happier with what I have....See MoreTrying to identify this wicker furniture set by Henry Link
