Oh wow! I actually have similar chairs in my formal dining room. I brought one in to try it out. The size and shape look so much better to me! The color is a little different than the bench not sure about that. Should I stay with a similar color or darker? Aktillery, thank you so much for the suggestion!

Here is a picture of one of my counter stools in a charcoal grey at the table. I thought it would be way too tall but the height actually works out. The lighting is weird this time of day making my pictures dark. I will try to get better ones later.

I actually like your original chairs....the height is right and the wood frames break up the surrounding upholstery. (I think the chair with the ring on the back is too squatty). Have you considered painting the chairs blue and finding a coordinating fabric with some pattern and color to tie in? Or, leave the frames as is and just get some lively fabric. Very pretty kitchen!

The height needs to be the same or close to the benches. DR chair is too short. I can't see the existing chairs very well with the table, but if you like them together consider painting and upholstering the existing chairs. If so, paint similar color to benches and upholster in a patterned fabric. Could even do different fabric on backs for accents.

What's the height on the banquettes? (I suspect 39"+) That would help people with suggestions, if you really do want to change out your end chairs (instead of modifying them as suggested)

The banquettes are 38 tall. The current wood frame chairs are 42 tall and the dark charcoal counter stool you see in the last two pictures is the exact same height as the banquette. The light gray dining chairs are about 34.5 for reference.

I was thinking about a cross back as well, but with arms and in a dark finish to pick up the black accents you have elsewhere. There are similar chairs with more easily changeable seat fabric if you wanted a better coordinate.

@gooster I really like those chairs you posted, what manufacturer are they from? The cushion seat is great with the exposed tacks and love the arms.

@g8day: Oh, I thought I included the manufacturer. Its is by Stanley, in the Fairleigh Fields collection.

Looking at your bar stool and your dining chair it made me realize that maybe some wider chairs might go better. This is only an example for width and size. It's a thought anyway.

How about a navy and gray weave bistro chair? Here is one from the TK Collections website, but they have literally hundreds of combinations and the ability to design your own (choose a weave pattern and two colors).

I should probably mention that I still want to change the chandelier over the table but I can't seem to find anything I love for the space yet. I live this cage chandy but I'm afraid it will just be too much with all the metal railings on the stairs etc.

That light fixture is gorgeous!! However, I agree it will compete with the iron on your stairs. I think a nice drum shade chandy would be perfect!

@aktillery - I had wanted to go with a drum shade previously but could not find something large enough and that would put out enough light for the area. I will keep looking though! Lol
