Show me your bedroom TV
Comments (1)Ours is not a flat panel, so it is on a wall-mounted tv holder (yes, I know, lots of people hate those because they scream hotel or hospital room). It sits in the far corner of the room, so it is pretty unobtrusive, but it is a great solution for us. No wasted floor space, and no furniture jammed closely together to accomodate the TV in the only spot it could be. Younger DS also has his older style tv on a wall mount, and loves it. He can see the tv from his bed or his reading chair, or turn it slightly and see it from his desk. Older DS is at university, but has a small entertainment center in his room here with a 13 inch tv in it, running parallel to the bed....See MoreShow me your bedroom TV, please!
Comments (6)Sue we have a small TV in our bedroom. Technically it's too small but even when I had a console table for it in place of the piece I have now (which greatly restricts the size we could use) I would not get a larger screen. Just as you mentioned, I don't want the TV to be the focal point - it's not a media room. Our viewing distance is a lot farther than yours - close to 16' and our TV is a 23". But the reality is, when in bed the ONLY thing I watch is the 10pm news and possibly a bit of Nightline. Neither requires big screen viewing IMO. The only other time I watch that TV is if I'm ironing and for that I'm much closer so distance and screen size are not a factor. We used to have a console table as I said but it was a particle board piece of junk so I got rid of it. That viewing height was very similar to what we have now which is about 32". However, before we drilled the back of this cabinet the TV sat on top for a loooong time and that viewing height is about 48" - 50" and it was fine. In fact, my DH worried he wouldn't like it lower again but since I gave him no choice, he's adjusted ;-) These are taken with my head pretty much on my pillow as it would be for viewing. And I can also tell you that at night, I can't read the time on that Bose clock radio to save my life!!! As you can see here, the DVD player is shoved in behind the TV - we never used it so didn't bother to hook it back up....See MoreCombining a Small Master Bedroom with an Ajoining Small Bedroom?
Comments (6)I did just what you describe and I'm tickled pink with it. In my case it WAS a load-bearing wall, but that just meant I had to header off the opening. I created about a four-foot archway between the two sections of the (now one)room - making one section the bed area and one the sitting/dressing area. I can't tell you what it costs since I did it myself, but I really don't think it would be that bad, depending on what needs to be done. I had to move a electrical box and add another (to stay up to code) but it was mostly a framing/drywall job. I would say the most important thing is visualizing the feel/scale of the new room as well as new traffic patterns and usage patterns to come up with a good design. In may case I created a couple of new walk-in closets to keep the scale of the resulting room comfortable. I know I've been in several "de-partition" rooms that feel just like that - two rooms with a wall knocked down....See MorePlease Show Me Your Eclectic Master Bedrooms
Comments (9)Well, we put in an offer on ANOTHER house (this is the 3rd one) Maybe the third time is the charm? The bedroom is much smaller than my current room which is over 13x17. I'll worry about the furniture IF we get the house! Cliff and Joan - the room size of this particular house we put the offer on is 12'11"x13'7" My furniture, if pushed up against each other with no room in between is 12 feet, exactly. Bed is 80"w and each of my nighstands is 32"w. That gives me 1'7" in this home, and it's not enough to be able to enter the bathroom. Your bedroom looks lovely. Seems it's a long room?? Below is a pic of the room in question. The current owner has a queen bed and one nightstand on the right side of the bed. The window you see in the first picture, right to the left of that (see 2nd picture) is the bathroom doorway. RED, it's been hard for me to find a home with a large master that has the other features I'm wanting in a house. Most newer homes have the large master I'm looking for, but don't have the formal living room and/or layout I'm wanting, so I'm limited. Older homes seem to have the layout I want, but not the big master bedroom. I too agree with Kiko, see below. KIKO, got the point and am agreeing with you. I'm getting rid of alot of other furniture. I like my furniture but can live without it. I'm just not sure how to put "odd" pieces together and wanted to see how others would put a bedroom together made of mixed pieces of furniture, without it looking feminine. NICOLE, thanks for posting the pic of your bedroom. Neat bed! Thanks to everyone else who replied, truly appreciated. Hope others will respond who have a room like this, it's nice to see how others have their rooms and how they've put things together. Guess we'll see how this goes with this offer. I've learned not to get excited about any home anymore. I won't get excited until the day it closes! BUT, whatever home I get, it seems a smaller bedroom is going to be something I'm going to have to go with - just can't be TOO small, some I've seen are 12x10- nay, nay!! Thanks all!...See Morerobo (z6a)
