fustian -- Restoration Hardware has a very liberal return policy. So while you'll be out the shipping charges, if you choose to not use the RH pulls you can absolutely return them, no problems. I purchased & installed on cabinetry (in the old kitchen) some of their longer pulls (in hopes of using them for appliance pulls). Then, when we realized they weren't going to work for our application we removed them and returned them without a single problem. At first I was hesitant to try to return something I'd opened up (they come individually wrapped in plastic baggies) but as I was going in to purchase something else thought I'd at least try to get a store credit. They were willing to return it outright! Not just for store credit. So you'll be okay opening them up and even putting them on a scrap piece (as I'm assuming you won't want to test on your new cabinetry), even if you decide to go with something else.

I came across this post and just wanted to add that in our old house, we had the cheapest of cheap builder grade 80's oak cabinets that were a terrible shade of orangish. DH, like a lot of men, has an issue with painting "the wood!" "You'll never get the same finish!" Well, actually, yes you can as long as you use a good oil based paint. But anyway...so we comprimised and picked up some "Liquid Sandpaper" from Home Depot or Lowes (can't remember which). You put it on with a rag, wait a bit, and then you can apply a new stain--though it should be darker or brighter (cherry) to cover whats there. It works by opening up the surface and allows the stain to penetrate into the finish...then after 2 hours it "closes" back up and holds in the stain. It took us all of a night to do the entire kitchen. We took the doors off and all the hardware of course to get the best finish on the door fronts. Total cost...about 30.00 with plenty of leftover product. And we too had what looked like "wood paper" on the sides of the cabinets but it took the stain just as well as other areas. I believe thats because the stain doesn't actually get all the way down to the wood, but rather gets encased just under the top coat. But I'm not sure, because it certainly looked like the cabinets had always been the new color--the wood grain was apparent and the finish retained a beautiful shine after. I'm not saying its necessarily a permanent fix but the ease and inexpense created instant gratification. And in our new house when we remodeled the kitchen...it was off-white cabinets or else! :) They are just so timeless...

Cabinet hardware, to a certain extent, is driven by the style of your cabinets & kitchen as well as the color family (silver/gold/copper/etc.) you're using for other components. There area a lot of different styles. Have you gone to a major home improvement store or several kitchen show places to see what's available? Look at styles first, then color family or other composition. In my experience, most styles can be found in various finishes & at various price points (often an indicator of composition & finish quality...but not always!) So... What style are your cabinets? Your kitchen in general? The rest of your home (particularly if your kitchen is open to the other rooms)? What color family are your appliances and other fixtures...faucet/soap dispenser/air switch, sink, hinges (if not hidden), lights, etc.? What color is your countertop (e.g.. if black, often silver-family items look better...but not always.) Cabinet color? Note: As with all decorating, these are guidelines to make it easier, but they are by no means "rules"! You certainly can mix color families, etc., but when you have no idea what to do sometimes this type of advice helps. In my case, I have a transitional kitchen. My color family is silver...pewter pendants, antique iron hardware, satin nickel faucets/soap dispensers/air switch. Black countertops. Cherry cabinets w/mandarin orange stain & coffee glaze. While my sink & appliances are all SS and certainly fit in the silver-family, I think they're neutral enough that they will also fit with most other color families as well. I put knobs on all doors & the 6" pullouts flanking my cooktop. I put drawer pulls on all drawers & the trash pullout. The knobs are spaced 1" in from the side and on the upper cabinets 3" up from the bottom edge, while on the base cabinets 3" down from the top edge. For the drawers, I put one pull on drawers = 30" wide. The pulls are centered vertically. Horizontally, when there's one pull, it's centered; where there are two knobs, they vary...the ones on the 36" drawers are 8" from the edge, on the 33" drawers they're 7-1/2" from the edge, on the 30" drawers they're 7" from the edge. Glad you like it, it was on my main Houzz feed and I thought of your kitchen right away. It has the same 'feel' to me. I found it a bit cheaper on this site: A & B Home Harper Pendant $136 They say its 20.9" long and 12.6 inches wide. I like it with the new stools because, again, it shares a rustic french country feel in my eyes. I think they definitely would look good together and with the kitchen as a whole. But only you can decide whether these pendants work with the stools and/or the sink light. They're far enough apart but the styles seem different. Is the sink a schoolhouse? Since the sink light is so neutral and simple, a pretty 'working' light, I could definitely live with it.
