Opinions on tile size please!!!
Comments (3)Are you trying to go for a more original or a more updated look? My brother and his fiancee just redid their small bathroom tub/shower combo with 4x8 subway tiles. I wasn't sure at first but it looked really good! It really gives a new spin on the classic subway tiled bathtub enclosure. If you are trying to stay more original than use the 3x6 tiles. Just decide what type of look you would rather have. Hope that helped....See MoreNeed opinions on tile layout in shower stall
Comments (4)With a 36" square shower, I'd suggest laying them out horizontally to visually widen the space. I prefer offset layouts (we went with a similar size, 12 x 18's, with a 1/3 offset). Here's a photo from Houzz that might help visualize this. These look like 12 x 18's to me and it appears that the portion of wall in the shower that is visible would be about 36" wide, the size of yours. Comments (9)Thank you for your comments, I really appreciate it. Yes, the timing of all this has me in a panic. I should add I thought the designer was very nice, and had many ideas and far more helpful than other stores. I wish I went to her when I was looking for a floor tile to go with the blue tile. However, even though it took me a while, I am happy with my selection She is adding to the design, not taking away from it. One of my concerns if I listen to her, that too much will go on. I forgot to add in my original post that she wants a trim of glass tiles on the 2 walls that are not in the shower. One of these walls is where a window and towel bar will be. I envision a window treatment and towels will be there and will compete with the trim. She does not like the look of a 4 inch granite backsplash, and feels it should be tile. My husband already said no to this. However, I do have a concern the blue pearl granite does not relate to the rest of the bath. She objects to the floor because it is too white, will show dirt and hair, and it should be dark to anchor the room. Only my husband and I will use this room, so dirt is not an issue to me. Besides dirt is not a problem in my other bathroom with a light floor that is used by my boys. I love the way that bathroom looks. The white tile in the shower is not important to me. Right now I want to keep it because I like the way the glass tile looks next to the white tiles. Comments (11)I am going to put a plug in for Marmoleum. 1. It will be much more comfortable for you to walk on a linoleum floor than a tile floor. The work done in a kitchen is mostly done standing up, and tile floors are hard on the back and knees. 2. A linoleum floor is totally in keeping with the age and style of your home. 3. You can make your kitchen a modern look if that's what pleases you, but your other choices are traditional (hardware is very traditional, Shaker cabinets can go either way). If you like a modern look go for it all the way. If you are happier in a traditional setting then I think linoleum is the way to go, or a smaller tile. 4. Marmoleum gives you many, many choices of color. Check out the Click option, or go for a sheet installation. The one caveat I will tell you is that you need to use a very skilled installer and that might be hard to schedule in San Fran. Or maybe there are many around in a place with such pricey real estate. In my (very large) city there is really only one guy and we had to wait a few weeks for him. We put cork down under our sheet product and we love love love how it feels and looks. Here is a link that might be useful: marmoleum...See MoreRelated Professionals
