Long, dark, low, depressing hall wall color suggestions?
Comments (32)Trees! That would be fun. I had been thinking of a spot to stick up that Cole & Son "Woods" paper, but a smaller pattern might work better with so many doors. And grasscloth. I had looked into it for my entry hall and living room and elsewhere (perfect cover for 50s paneling, right?) and was under the impression that it just wasn't durable enough. I'd love to be wrong. Or find a good faux grasscloth. WHERE does one go to look at wallpaper in person these days? Seriously, are there any more wallpaper stores? You all have not made this easier at all by giving me so many options I hadn't considered! So thanks! :) Do we all agree that the can lights must go, or is replacing them with ones that actually illuminate good enough? With the furnace intake and an attic access panel and four of the recessed lights, I think that the ceiling is sort of busy and making the light fixtures more substantial might help distract from that. Really, this hall isn't awful. I'm putting off the rest of the house because this is actually manageable. Actually I was planning on doing the entry hall which is well-lit and also brown and thought I needed to carry the treatment into this hall which branches off from it but there is a door. I don't have to match! Gee. I need to focus. :)...See MoreHow to unite dark stained woodwork with painted white woodwork?
Comments (2)This is one of those things you can cross off your list of things to worry about - there is no need to "match" or "blend" anything - just let it be a room with dark woodwork and wainscotting - you want a dining room to feel intimate and with the right lighting (candlelight?) Ill bet it would look stunning. Im assuming the woodwork throughout the house is all orginal, whether painted or not, and the trim all has the same profile thoughout the house? Thats all the consistency you need I think. Where it starts to look goofy and mismatched is when they yank out the original woodwork and put in cheap chintzy modern trim in some places, but leave the original trim in other places. That has the look of a cheap cheesy slumlord remuddle....See Morewhite window frames: ok to paint woodwork dark?
Comments (4)I love the color, but I do think that because you can't paint the metal windows, you should leave the woodwork white. The completely one solid color in your inspiration photo is what makes it a unique "look", but having to leave your window frames white while the woodwork is dark would look kind of half-finished. That said, I think the white woodwork looks fantastic in the room!...See Morewhich white paint to use on dark woodwork
Comments (3)Hi! You can try with the average white color but it can be better to try matching wood with contrasting colors to get a good look. It all depends on the shade of the wood. For example, honey-toned pinewood shows up well against a medium green, bright blue brings out the wood's orange tones, terra-cotta. If you are more on the traditional type, pale orange draws out the orange in the wood but is so similar in tone that the wood is nearly lost and yellow brings out the wood's orange and yellow tones and emphasizes an overall warmth, but it doesn't enhance the wood. It's all up to you!...See MoreBoopadaboo
