Ew...wet rags on kitchen sink
Comments (29)fwiw - ever since I bought my new FL washer I've noticed that my towels and washcloths have a musty smell, even after one use and using fabric softener. My daughter who just bought a different brand of FL has told me the same thing about hers. According to an article I just read this week, these new washers shouldn't be filled with the 22 towels that the mfrs claim we can wash at one time!! Seems that not enough water gets to the towels to remove all the mold spores that produce smells when the towels are damp. The article also suggested to wash all towels on hot and on the longest cycle. So that is what I will be doing from now on - fewer towels, longer cycle, hotter water - and maybe that will help. I've never ever had this problem with the agitator-type washer. Worth a try at least for all of us who have stinky towels....See MoreBlack Counter Owners
Comments (20)BlackChamois ---- my counter is a granite called "Cambrian Black" which is not the same as the quartz company called "Cambria." I wish my countertop had a different name since you aren't the first person to mix those up........ (My runner up countertop was a black Cambria quartz product, though :)) The "leathered" or "antiqued" finish is honed, but there is a lot more texture to it than regular honed. My wall paint is Pittsburgh Paint's Moth Gray.... at 75% strength. It looks similar to BM Edgecomb Grey to me, perhaps a little less warm. The hardware is from Rejuvenation Hardware. The tiles are regular white subways. Nothing special. I'm linking to my finished kitchen thread if you want other photos.... :) Here is a link that might be useful: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg012245393343.html...See MoreWhat' on your counter?
Comments (42)This is an interesting discussion as this is core to my dilema with space planning for my kitchen reno. To be honest, What I would really like is to be able to do is to keep all the main appliances I use on the counter. I have tried the storage in shelves, on super susans, in cabinets in pantry and on the countertop already plugged-in(in a rental with a lot of counter space). The one that worked for me the best was having it on the counter.. I actually used the appliances a lot more and my meals were more creative. What I imagine is an extra-deep counter with an 1' deep appliance garage all along the back with a nice-looking tambour style door that can be rolled up or down - so essentially my kitchen can have a more open working view and a closed view that is clean and nice. I once timed how long it takes if I have to pull out the appliances and set it up - adds 10-15 mins to my prep and another 10-15 to put away. If wishes were horses :) Here is my appliance list (I cook a pretty international cuisine and use all of them on a regular basis) Bread machine - Weekly Coffee Machine - Daily Vitamix - Daily for kefir smoothies small spice grinder - 2-3 times a week for fresh spices as I use whole spices only Immersion blender - weekly Asian blender with multiple jars - 2-3 times a week stone molcajete (mortor/ pestle) - 2-3 times a week mini crockpot - weekly Rice cooker - 2-3 times a week Asian wet grinder - weekly Lalitha...See MoreHelp me pick a counter (long, with pictures)
Comments (67)I hear so many scares: it's all info based on experience. Just know : I believe the best advise: granite, CS, Quartz, Marble, ect countertops. #1 clean with a 4.5PH daily SAFE cleaner: Distilled H2o if diluting products. Use a weekly polisher/silicone based. #2 wipe up messes ASAP! Immediately. Then no matter what: take very great care of your investment and all should be well. (The AB granite scare is real: I read a hugh Legal stand article on AB granite today! Crazy! Read things I never hear before: but have seen re: the gray vs black. Crazy!) One thing Legally that I read: ONLY LEGAL AB granite comes from Africa. The rest of the 'black' granite around the world can't be called AB Granite: not even from India. They color it black with chemicals to appear more black; and that is what gets ruined not the stone. I read the best thing to do if you want granite more black: it's a process of stripping what the factory put on there and re-applying a color enhancer sealer that will darken the color the right way to more black. I should post the article. There is legal action that can be taken against the factory of the granite. consumer fraud charges on the stone yard who represent the factories who process the granite....See MoreJillius
