shouldn't they be angled directly toward your work surfaces?

We are thinking of replacing the single boob light in our kitchen. The biggest problem here is that there is no lighting above the stove, which you can't see very well in the picture because its right beside the refrigerator and honestly, cooking there is like cooking in a cave...I would assume....save for the above-stove microwave light. We have some improvised ikea spotlights that we're using about the stove now but we'd like a more unified solution that provides lighting for both the sink area and the stove area. We were thinking of using the existing box to install track lighting, perhaps one of those flexible ones, that would extend to the stove area maybe with spotlights that can be aimed towards the sink and a pendant for the peninsula (that's in front of the sink area, not pictured). We have a very tiny budget for this so something simple and inexpensive but that still looks nice would be preferred. I hope we're not asking too much. We would appreciate any suggestions! bob_cville, looks great! I have components in a box that my contractor is about to install. I'd really like a gentle S curve to the track. Folks at my retail lighting supply house say the Nora rail is easy to bend and you can do it around a garbage can or other cylinder. My contractor is planning to build a curve guide on a long flat board, with posts at the start, midpoint and end of each curve to bend around. Trying to decide if we should just fork over the bucks for the actual Nora rail bending device. Anybody out there have any experience with it?

Aim the bulbs at the upper cabinet fronts and the island top. Then install LED strips under the uppers to light your work spaces. Light the glass front cabinets with LED inside. If you like, you can add LED above the cabinets too. If you still don't have enough light at the sink, consider hiring an electrician to run electric from the current fixture to the ceiling above the sink and install a can or pendant.
