How to best use space in laundry room? (pictures included)
Comments (10)Hailefinn brings up a point I hadn't thought of yet. I knew that DW would have to stretch to use the dryer controls if stacked (at least one stackable unit has the dryer controls on the bottom, but that limits us to a single model or small subset of models). Since setting the controls is pretty quick and easy I thought stretching or a small step stool might work for that. What we haven't yet tried is reaching in to the back of the dryer cavity. That might be difficult and standing on a step stool while pulling out clothes or stepping on and off could be dangerous. It looks like we may have to do the units side by side. About the sink: There's a bathroom about 3 feet from the potential laundry area. Is a sink still worth it?...See MoreTiny Laundry Room Remodel
Comments (2)Keep in mind there is a LOT of moisture associated with a dryer vent---it is removing all the moisture from the clothing. There is also a LOT of lint, even with a lint trap. All that moisture and lint going out into an enclo0sed area will cause problems. Rusting of metal, mold growth, and lint accumulation on surfaces are just three of those. What would be the better solution is to run the exhaust into the garage and up through the roof. That means at least three 90 degree joints and that requires an assist fan in the duct work....See MoreTalk me out of this kitchen/laundry layout! Or is it optimal?
Comments (28)@mimimomy- great questions!! I’m undecided. On the one hand, something we dislike about our existing floorplan is how much “prime” space the laundry room takes up (and the wet bar closet that backs to it and opens to the dining). We don’t use much of it- husband‘s “drop zone” is a 14”x18” tray on the counter (which could be relocated, maybe to entry foyer area?), and obviously the washer and dryer themselves, but the rest of the space isn‘t used. Well we use some for a pantry (bc we dont have one), but I’m hoping the new floor plan has a real pantry cabinet. As far as the mud room aspect, we have shelves in the garage where we leave wet/muddy stuff; clean/dry stuff goes in the coat closet by the front door. On the other hand, I love the idea of a nice laundry room (who doesn’t?!). I’m just not sure we want to give up space for it, when technically only enough space to house a washer and dryer is needed. I do wonder about the noise aspect though. Prior to this house, all my small apartments had laundry closets and I never noticed an issue. But I wasnt thinking about that at the time either......See MoreHELP OUTDATED TINY LAUNDRY ROOM
Comments (14)were you going to tile? (lots of pictures!!) here's a small room w/a charcoal tile herringbone. (you could do this w/just about any type of tile. they even have a porcelain tile that looks like brick. look up taupe color porcelain brick tile) Tile the wall behind the appliances, get a new cabinet or make some shelving, a cool light, bar for hanging clothes, a drying rack. you could even do a wall mural that looks like brick. or stencil brick. or get tile that looks like brick. lol pay attention to these pictures and how they make the most out of storage. everything is DIY Or maybe you want to jazz it up w/bold tile? This link has a lot of cool ideas for a small laundry room. I like this one w/the floor tile and matching vertical gap panels behind the untis. get wood shelf like this to install to hold you detergents (I did one like this) and a cabinet like this. (or one you can paint) https://quietwoodscreations.com/blogs/news/17-simple-ideas-for-a-small-laundry-room You could even do this on the wall! and, look at the wood shelf you could make. tile is avail here https://www.flooranddecor.com/porcelain-tile/royal-blue-matte-porcelain-tile-100585421.html Did you know you can paint that vinyl flooring and then stencil it? painted floor and stenciled wall: https://www.viewalongtheway.com/2013/01/how-to-paint-vinyl-or-laminate-flooring/ These pictures are all small room like you have. totally doable for a DIY https://www.thecreativemom.com/diy-small-laundry-room-makeover/ Or. what about this after shot? (you don't have the window, so ignore that) Almost the same layout like you have. these are vinyl peel and stick flooring, painted cabs, and a nice wood shelf to install above your units. (I have something like this too) check out the link on how to get this look https://centsationalstyle.com/2018/06/how-to-hide-an-ugly-floor-laundry-room-refresh/ Wall stencils or floor stencils avail on Etsy or just look at Royal Design Studio and how they stencil vinyl flooring. tons of ideas and pictures. ,, (you could do the wall in a simple white subway tile if you like) https://www.etsy.com/listing/547126738/geometric-wall-stencil-or-floor-tile this one is super cute w/the herringbone wall. https://sammyonstate.com/2019/10/18/small-laundry-room-makeover/ Play up that wall with some great tile, design, paint, shelving, whatever! You could do the floor w/the herringbone design, wallpaper, tile the wall, add cabinets, a pendant light for this look: On a Budget? take a look at these https://crazylifewithlittles.com/laundry-makeover/ Can you paint? you could do some cool designs w/paint that are a lot cheaper than wallpaper: or try something like on the walls, a cool light, some higher shelving w/bars for hanging clothes. you don't have the sink, but you could do the storage ideas like shown here: do a cool flooring tile to go w/this look don't be afraid to do darker colors. I like these cabinets w/the white appliances, and the wood shelf 'bar'. easy to make. more open shelving ideas. easy to make yourself....See Morepractigal
