Question for you that knit /crochet
Comments (5)Well....that depends. First of all will you be knitting or crocheting? Crochet takes on an average 1/3 more yardage than knit to make the same size square. Secondly what will your gauge be....that is the number of stitches to the inch? That is determined by the size of the needle you use and the weight of the yarn. Once you figure out those things, you can find a pattern that uses the same gauge you plan on using and see what yardage of yarn they recommend, then use that figure for your baby blanket. If you are just doing a fairly simple blanket without fringe or add on crocheted flowers and the like you should be able to get by for about 500 yards of worsted weight yarn. Do you do Ravelry? There are a bazillion of adorable patterns there....for all sorts of wonderful things! Here is a link that might be useful: ravelry...See MoreA knitting or crochet ring? (for the finger)
Comments (11)Wendy I saw a picture of the pink ring , both opened and closed. It must have a hinge of some sort on it, so it wouldn't have to stay with the yarn if you wanted to use it for another project. I have a tension ring that doesn't look anything like that. It is metal and came from Norway. Vique...See Moreinexpensive knitting and crochet needles....
Comments (12)socks12345, no I just got my order the other day and was really excited, and thought I'd share. I hope I didn't violate any rules or anything, I'm new here, and a fairly novice knitter. I just was really amazed at how cheap I got them for. At my local yarn store (22 miles one way) I have to pay upwards of 3 dollars for a set of 2 and 5 dollars for a set of 4, and have yet to find a set of 5 in one package. I just thought that if anyone else lived in a town with little to no yarn supplies they might like it. Sandra, I tried ebay but I didn't find as good a deal as I did at the eknittingneedles.com site. We're a single income family until my kiddo starts school fall 2010, and I just really couldn't see paying 4 bucks a set. I found a few cheap lots, but the pics showed metal needles with worn finish, and some lots stated have a set of 3 dpns, and well if I had one dpn that was lonely of that size.. LOL well I might have concidered it. I'll check out 5 seasons on ebay though. who knows they might have some great deal on something. I just couldn't pass up on 2 bucks a set of needles at the other site. BTW I also found a store online that sells caron natura for 99 cents a skein! it's terrisyarnsandcrafts.com they sell other yarns too at a good price....See MoreAnyone here with Arthritis who knits or crochets
Comments (9)One: it will depend on where and how bad her arthritis is. I can knit much longer periods of time than I can crochet. Two: it can depend on HOW she learns to knit. For me, knitting continental (working yarn held in left hand), is worse than knitting English/American (throwing the yarn with the right hand). For me, the continental motion working the right needle is much like I use a crochet hook, which aggravates my wrist and shoulder. With the arthritis in my shoulder, crochet aggrivates it, rather than loosens it. Teach her both over time, so she isn't overwhelmed, then let her decide which is easier for her.
