*Sweeby, yes your bath is just about like what my layout would look like. Your bath is very pretty and soothing, a goal of mine. Your base tiles and cigar rail is way more elaborate than my pencil & base. I like the idea of painting the ceiling same as walls. Another question, do you think since the 4.25 sq tiles will never line up with the 8" trim that it wont look good? If so what if I did a running bond? I wanted to use the stacked because of the historic context of my existing walls. I just assumed that since it was a field tile that it would read as a large surface. How was it done back in the day? I think today I will take my camera to work. I work in a hospital with some old tile work. I will take pictures to help me with my interpretation. Of note, one room I work in used to be one of the old original surgical suites. It was built in 1918 I believe (it might go with the Steampunk theme on the kitchen forum:) It is now a group therapy room. Until recently even an old light switch was still in place that surely had to be original. The ceilings are probably 12 feet. All the walls are faced in marble and they are matched. I haven't measured too much yet. My original thought was to go with the height of what is there now, which is 4 feet. But the wainscot is a very understated, all painted one color (walls and ceiling), embossed into plaster, 4x4 stacked tile pattern, that was put in when the shed roofed addition was built in the 30's? The walls are needing replaced around the tub and all the fixtures are very worn. This bath gets used hard. It is time to redo and update materials. I want to make it lovely and durable. It is next to my newly outfitted kitchen. The BR accommodates everyone on this working farm. It sees the occasional vet supplies, steel buckets - even some emergency livestock care has taken place in this bath. The BR will continue to service in this capacity on the rare occasion. This is quite a coincidence, but my dining room and kitchen (which were both small rooms, semi-open to each other) used to be Grey Mirage with China White trim. I painted the ceiling the same as the wall color (or maybe it was one shade lighter, I can't remember now) and never regretted it. It's such a pale color, you'll barely notice that the ceiling isn't white, IMO. In fact, after we had the ceiling painted, DH came home and said "I thought the ceiling wasn't going to be white?"

I'd paint that ceiling the same color as the walls - Hush is a really pretty color, btw. If it felt boxed in, I'd be really surprised. In this room, I think the effect will be the exact opposite. My guess is Hush on the ceiling and walls will bring a sense of cohesiveness and continuity. Which could result in your perceiving a higher ceiling. Eliminating the line of contrast at the ceiling - even tho it is very slight - is how it's going to deliver that perception of a higher ceiling. Love the pops of orange and turquoise - very cool.

For sure do not get those blue curtains with the two layers. They look old lady-ish. You are much better of getting a light ivory very simple neutral curtain. If you need to block the light, you can get curtains lined with black out material. In a small space, less is more. Also, "less is more" is more sophisticated too. I am not in favor of accent walls of color or wall paper. To me they are the choice of people who don't know how to choose art. I would also not choose that nightstand, it is way busy, and you may get very tired of it. What you can do if you love that sort of design, is find that type of design in a peel and stick wall paper and create for yourself a sizable but inexpensive "triptych" and frame it in attractive but reasonably priced frames you pick up somewhere. Or even use the very inexpensive styrofoam molding you can buy on Amazon that looks just like wood. Then as time goes on if your tastes change, you can easily change out the print for something else. You could certainly paint your place any shade of blue/teal you like and pick whatever color linens you like. I would get less specific lamps for the same reason as I stated about your nightstand. It is not that desirable to be too "theme-y" in decor. Your chosen hamper is nice, but don't you want to keep it in your closet anyway? It is a good idea to have touches of black in a decor with a lot of blue, black grounds it, otherwise all blue seems too ethereal. However that bed seems very ponderous relative to the look you are going for. I am wondering if you can maximize the storage in your closets and your storage units you are buying so that you can buy a bed that does not have those storage units below the bed that make the bed look rather ungraceful.
