Computer Backup Problem

I have a WD external drive that I've used for backups the past year. I'm using the WD Smartware and have it set for "continuous back-up". Recently I've started getting messages from the Windows Action Center that the Windows Backup failed and error code 0x81000037. (The Windows backup is set for once a week.) WD Smartware shows that everything is backed up. Should I be concerned about this message from Action Center?

BTW - There is sufficient space available on the external to accommodate the size of the files needing to be backed up.

I am assuming that the error code is probably referring to a backup problem within the Windows OS rather than an indication of a problem with your independent backup.

You don't say what version of Windows you are using, but the link below may be a place to start.

Thanks for the response. I'm using Windows 7. I saw this information but found it too confusing for my skill level. I did the command prompt and then got to the list of all the Junction files but got lost at that point. I found several other posts from persons in a situation similar to mine. They'd point out that the example was unclear and the IT help desk person would just re-state what was said originally. Kind of humorous actually.

Bill, Thanks for the clear parts breakdown. Better than the user manual. I have pulled the mechanism apart a number of times and it is fairly clean, just a little dust. The pawl (45)and spring (46) look kind of weak but should work if not broken. The local dealer has also taken it apart a couple times and finds no problem. What is really strange is that it appears that no one else is having the problem and the mower is rated very good by comsumers. I'm a little reluctant to tape the seal to the gear a I think the two have to move independent of each other???

Snakes can punch a hole through some clogs without actually dislodging and clearing them. I'd use a power snake (turned by a power drill type motor), to make sure the pipe is actually cleared. Run the power snake in and out several times while turning, running water to flush out the residue at the same time. (The power snake can be rented)

Continuous, instantaneous backups is massive overkill. What you're saying is that your saved files are so special, your (personal) memory and your time are both so very limited, and the risk of a PC failure any minute of the day is so imminent, that anything other than immediate backups puts you in jeopardy. To that, I say, nope. Very unlikely to be the case, I don't care who you are or what you do. And doing so can foster an unwarranted paranoia. And you realize that by keeping your one backup copy continuously connected to your PC, you risk losing what's on your PC AND your backup if there's a power surge or a hiccup in the PC's power supply. Not a good practice no matter how you look at it. You needn't use Windows backup, or what came with the drive, if these don't do what you prefer. There are lots of free backup programs that should be more useful to use. Many apps (like Excel or Word) will do save backup copies every few minutes. Isn't that enough? Once a day is overkill for most people, every few days or week should suffice for most, but so be it. For the occasional something special when your backup is between cycles, attach it to an email and save it as a draft. Or put it on a thumb drive and then remove it from the PC. Done.

Is this a new house? We had an issue in our previous house. Master bath, shower, toilet and guest bath shower and toilet started to back up. Turned out it was a nail that got lodged in the curve of the main waste pipe. How that nail got there....my 4 year old son at the time(he's 22 now) thought it would be cool to throw nails down the pipes in the house under construction. He got a few in before we realized what he was doing. It was a few weeks after we moved in that the problem occurred because it took some time for toilet paper to build up as it got hung up on the nail.

Hi, once you've displayed the Junction files, note the location...example would be C:\Users\My Music\Music_1
Now open Computer from your start button and then navigate or drill down the list. Open Users, open your user name folder, open My Music, right click Music_1 and choose Properties (Then you can follow the instructions from Microsoft to verify that it is a mounted volume and delete it.

Thanks for this information this was kind of what I thought but the example file referenced was not shown in the screen shot, hence part of my confusion. Also, I'm guessing I'm to see if all of the Junction/Reparse points are "mounted volume" and, if so, delete them?

Your points are more clear than the information given on the Windows site.
