Space-challenged bath-- alcove, drop-in or undermount?

I am remodeling a bathroom where I hope to put the only true spa-like bath. I need to put the tub in a corner, it needs to be 60", and I want some combination of air/heated surface/heated air. At 60", I won't have much wiggle room at all. I'll have maybe 6 inches at MOST to use for the tub surround, and I'd like to use as little as possible for the surround because my shower will take the hit if the tub is too large.

So.... it seems to me that the best option is to build a knee-wall at one end and get an alcove tub. That way I won't have to build a surround with tiny slivers of quartz or stone for the top of the surround which would look odd and serve little purpose. (I'm thinking of putting a built in bench under the adjacent window that could maybe house the motor and act as a table for toiletries, etc.)

Why don't I see any examples of this? Are there drawbacks to an alcove, like the walls could make it uncomfortable to bathe? It seems the alcove is mostly used when the tub doubles as a shower. Help? Suggestions?

I'm not opposed to undermount or drop-in, if there is a way to make it work. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?

Thank you!
