Love to finish (X post dec. & long)
Comments (26)Mommy, no tears... your kitchen is gorgeous and you are Just about there... very close indeed. Here are the changes I would make. Remove the two panels sitting on top of the ledge. They are serving to take away from the over all look rather than add to it. Consider a stucco finish for the hood area and paint in a shade of "putty" or "parchment". Leave everything else as is, except repaint the walls something other than yellow. I think it is to sunshiney cheery for the old world sophistication of your kitchen. It just doesn't go. You have a lot of strong elements in your kitchen, so I think the wall color should be very subdued... perhaps a shade or two lighter than the Putty/Parchment I am suggesting for you hood. Take a look at gglks's kitchen. The hood design is a dominant element... but it works because there is an overall harmony in the kitchen with a reduced number of elements. I think you just need to remove ONE element and you are there and to me that would be the yellow color....See MoreBacksplash...what do you think???
Comments (38)To be honest, I never even considered glass tile. Didn't think I liked it because it is very shiny. That is why I was looking at the travertine, because it was classic and matte. I think with all of the suggestions that I have been getting that I better check them out. I like that you all have been so honest. Opening my eyes to different avenues. Hollysprings, you are right about the peachy undertone...it is not as peachy as the pictures show, they are more cream, just some have it. I looked at so many, and a lot had a grey undertone. It did not look good next to the granite. The color of the travertine matches the crams in the granite. That is why I thought it would be better. Mom2sethc...I love your tiles. What kind of matte tile are they?...See MorePicture of the inspiration with 3 colors for cabs
Comments (3)Hi Michelle, Beautiful inspiration photo! Your kitchen ideas sound lovely. And your slab is gorgeous. When I was kitchen designing 18 months ago I spent a lot of time thinking about grays to pain my island (before deciding on a one-tone white kitchen). At that time, everyone was buzzing about BM Fieldstone Gray from the famous Sally Wheat Cote de Texas kitchen. I'm sure you have seen it. You'll find several posts on GW about Fieldstone Gray, including posts by Teresse on her choices in her vintage gray kitchen. Your inspiration picture reminds me (a bit -- perhaps because of the pendants) of the 2009 Princess Margaret show home featured in Canadian House and Home. Athough the Princess Margaret kitchen is more modern/contemporary than your inspiration photo, perhaps looking at the sources may give you some color ideas for your dreamy and subdued "Belgium" palette: Here is a link that might be useful: Cote de Texas on Sally Wheat inspired kitchens...See MoreI Have Anti-Upperitis. Comments (70)Keep working on him. I am more convinced than ever that that is the direction I am heading. I even got a price on new windows yesterday. I may put a few uppers on the range wall but I have not made up my mind. My DH was all about having more and more storage with no real plan for what we would put in there. When I actually looked around, I realized that most of the stuff in the upper cabinets on the sink wall were going to be living somewhere else in the new kitchen. I think the little things I have done that have improved our house have helped my DH trust me a little more. We took down the wall between the kitchen and family room after much complaining from him about "taking down a perfectly good wall". Now, we cannot imagine our house without it. I bought a 36'' Liebherr and DH said "Have I told you how much I love the fridge?". I told him no just to hear him say it again. He sees how much bigger the kitchen is without the giant monster fridge. Just keep throwing some great looking inspiration pictures his way. My DH has come a long way. Best of luck....See MorePurplemoon
