Hello rose lovers! Can anyone identify this small rose for me? My grandmother grew it in her garden and I’d love to have it in mine. It has small blooms- I’d say around 2 inches or so. And the buds are perfectly round before they open. It’s a coral pink color. Thank you so much!

Hi Sarah, It is actually quite difficult to ID a rose just from a photo of the bloom. My suggestion would be to ask your friend what varieties these are -- if they came from their garden it is likely that they know. That would be the most reliable way to determine ID. If your friend does not know then things like the bush habit, how often it blooms, what the thorns look like and how thorny it is, the leaves of the plant, the buds, and the backs of the blooms where they attach to the stem are all things that can help with an identification. Given the wide commercial availability of David Austin roses, my guess is that at least one of these is a David Austin rose. The last one might be Bolero (Meilland) but with slightly fewer petals than normal. This can happen if the weather is hot or if the rose is having a rough week for some reason.

Yasitha, I am admiring your roses, particularly the dark, velvety one. It looks like some stripes are emerging on one petal. It reminds me of some rare stripe roses that are sports and often revert to the non-striped form. The blooms on these roses are usually pretty small. Take a look at HMF (Help Me Find Roses) search for striped roses. Check out Simsalabim (hope I've spelled that correctly). Another neat one is Memphis Music. I think Diane nailed it with Lion's Fairy Tale. I just looked at all of the pics of it on HMF, and many (not all) showed the same unique substance to the petals that I noticed from your pics. Kudos to Diane for her great sleuthing :-D
