Elm scale

I planted a Princeton Elm in my front yard 2 years ago. I noticed this fall it was covered in scale. It is about 5-6 ft tall and I'm worried the scale will eventually kill/deform it. If I can get the scale undercontol with hort oil sprays will this still be a long term pest I will have to deal with? I'm considering pulling it and planting a different native. Any experienced Elm growers out there?
