You can start the pits in damp potting soil as well as in water, so you could probably put it in a pot now, with just the upper part of the pit sticking out (just barely). I would think a 6" diameter pot would be about right. You can always repot it into a larger pot later on. So the shock of being in a drier environment doesn't kill it, I would put a clear plastic bag over the newly-potted pit, but cut some holes in it for ventilation, and enlarge them when the top starts growing, then leave the pot uncovered for air movement. All you would need would be some mold or fungus to start. I would also put the potted pit in indirect light to encourage the stem to start growing, although it may grow well behind (time-wise) the root, like an acorn does. Once you've got some leaves, I would feed it with some diluted worm tea or apply a thin (1/8") layer of good homemade compost to the surface of the pot and water it in. Sue

seedmama - I put my Tutti Fruiti Lupin in the ground a couple of weeks ago, as soon as they were big enough for me to handle. They didn't even have true leaves at the time. They are still very small, but they now have several leaves, in spite of the fact, that I forgot they were there and hit them with a 60 mile an hour wind from the leaf blower. LOL I thought early would be best so they could establish a little before the heat hits. Mine have had some pretty cold weather and almost an inch of rain since they went in the ground. They seem to be pretty tough. Token - With all the plants you have growing, I doubt that you will miss a few. Your tomato plants look great BTW.

I've done a considerable amount more reading on here and most of my seedlings still had the codyledons and the real leaves were nothing more than a small sprout but considering what I had them planted in, I decided to replant in MG potting soil. I had them in the small peat bags and I didn't want them to get too much larger and have to break the root because it had grown through the screen. Also, all of the peat bags have continued to stay wet even though I haven't watered in probably four days. I also started a handful of Serranos in another seed starter on a small heating pad on low. This is on the top shelf of the other seeds. I've tried starting seeds on the back porch, in the barn, out on my flatbed trailer in the shade, and lastly, this time in the house with a heating pad. I'm hoping this works the best, because it is probably the most controlled environment. I also will probably be asking for some help identifying what does make it because it the whole process, I neglected to keep track of what I had planted. And I planted a bunch of different peppers.
