Yellow Leaves, Brown Edges on Fuyu Persimmon Tree
Comments (4)Put overhead and western shade over it first leaf if this is on the south or west side. You won't have to bother with overhead shade next leaf as it hardens off, though western shade may be a good idea for the 2nd leaf. Keep in mind as well that with sandy soil you may need to water frequently, using multiple emitters around, or just outside the canopy line but not for long to reach that 3 foot depth. The tips look like salt burn/underwatering. Salt burn would be unusual in sandy soil unless you have been fertilizing. But since it looks like it is on new leaves I am thinking iron deficiency. I am interpreting it from a close up photo without seeing the whole tree or knowing whether it is localized to an area of the tree. I do not know how common iron deficiency is in your area. In my area iron deficiency is almost always due to high pH but in your soil it may actually be lack of iron. Either way initial treatment is with chelated iron (preferably Fe-EDDHA). If high pH is the cause then adding soil sulfur and building up the organic content of the soil over time with a surface mulch is the cure. Comments (0)Hi Folks: I have three banana plants around my pool area. I planted them about 4 years ago and they come back every year. I don't do anything in the winter to protect them, but when I start seeing green in the Spring, I pull off all the dead stuff so the green can come through. Anyway, one of them has badly yellowing leaves with dark brown at the edges... it almost looks like its been burnt by a fire. I am going to try to post a picture but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. The pictures are on my desktop. Can anyone tell me how to upload into the message? Comments (6)Next summer, just be sure to grow them in a shady spot. Hoyas seem to do very well in shade, and there's way less risk of sunburn. I had a few out this summer on a shady shelf that got just a bit of afternoon sun, dappled through other plants, and they exploded with growth! If you just cut off that growth, it will spring forth with new! Denise in Omaha...See Moresabine_farm
