Perhaps the best answer is this link to Professor Roush (a frequent visitor here) who grows this rose in nearby Kansas. His Earth Song (front and center) towers over HT Garden Party (white) and Sunsprite (yellow).

He wrote about this rose as having "a perfect vase shape."

About 4 feet wide in Connecticut.

On Long Island, NY,z7a, mine gets about 4ft high by 4ft wide with minimum care. Nice big double blooms full of petals; makes me think of lollipops for some reason. One of Buck's best. Has been highly recommended as a parent on the Rose Hybridizer's forum.

Earth Song is one of my favorite roses. It requires little care compared to a typical Hybrid Tea. Zero winter damage, truly black spot resistant and of little interest to midge. It even produced a sucker child which was successfully separated last year.

Earth Song is growing in a bush form and is about 24" across at the soil line. Last summer it was 4' across and 5' tall. Roses tend to grow larger than average here.

For some reason it is often labeled as a grandiflora, but I don't know why. It has very little in common with the world of grandifloras and hybrid teas.

Think of it as growing more like a modern shrub, regardless of what they label it as. I'd guess mine grows about 3.5 by 3.5--but I usually have to trim it back a bit due to some late winter freeze-thaw damage.

It's a good one--you'll enjoy it.

Sara-Ann, may I ask where you are getting this rose. I have been considering it for years. I am putting together my spring orders now and trying to combine orders. It really looks lovely and I am a sucker for pink roses...Lesley

Lesley - I reserved several roses at Burlington Roses in September and Earth Song was one of them, hopefully she will still have it. Roses Unlimited lists it too. I love their quality, but you're never sure if they actually have something in stock. Looks like Heirloom has it too, they have some of their roses marked down right now. There may be other sources too. I talked to Burling on the phone several times when I was preparing this order, she is so nice.

I agree with the prevailing opinions - even in dry colder Nebraska, Earth song gets big for me. It's in the back of a large bed at 5' by 4' on a good year, bushy and continually blooming. It holds the foundation spot underneath a trellis arch just behind it, and it fills the space in front of the trellis pretty well with just 2 feet or so visual space to the top of the trellis. It's a keeper for sure.

I also heartily endorse both Roses Unlimited and Burlington as sources for roses. Also, with RU you can always drop Pat an email to check about availability of roses you want and she's pretty prompt at getting back to you with up-to-date information. Same with Burling, who also doesn't maintain web lists of whether a particular rose is in stock at any given time.
