New to bonsai: juniper question

tombob

I received a five-year-old juniper bonsai as a gift. I live in southern Illinois, zone 6, where in winter temperatures can range from sub-zero to seventy degrees within the space of a week or two.

Currently I have the juniper indoors in an east window where the temperature hovers around 65 degrees F.

Should I leave it inside for the winter, watering sparsely, or should I move it outside to a location protected from north winds? If so, how do I keep the roots from freezing. My concern is that it is already December and it has had no time to acclimate. I have only had the juniper since the end of November.
