Snowstorms--Most vivid in literature

As the northeastern US experiences a memorable snowstorm, I have been thinking about descriptions of snowstorms in literature. Some are romantic; others frightening.

While a number come to mind, the one that made a deep impression on me at an early age was the description in The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Wilder had originally titled the book The Hard Winter but the publisher thought that was too frightening for children. It didn't matter; the book was vivid enough to leave me with a lifelong respect for the power of nature.
