Patrick Leigh Fermor--does anyone else love him?

I'm not a particular fan of travel writing, but Fermor's writing knocks me out. I discovered him when I read Between the Woods and the Water and A Time of Gifts, about (two thirds) of the walking trip he made in 1939 when he was 19 from the Hook of Holland to Constantinople. The last third of the walk has never appeared in print as far as I know.

I'm now reading Roumeli, Travels in Northern Greece, and next Mani, about the Peloponnese.

Fermor's style moves me deeply--it's often baroque, but powerful and deeply experienced. Fermor was apparently was quite a WWII war hero, a Greek speaker fighting with Greek partisans. His bold kidnapping of a German general has, I've read, become part of traditional ballads in parts of Greece.

Anyone else out there who knows his work?
