My Sister from the Black Lagoon - intriguing title, not so great story. Peace Like a River - loved the titled, loved the book. A Spot of Bother - by the same man who wrote A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime - but not as good. Bad Monkeys by Matt Ruff - really enjoyed it. Gonzalez and Daughter Trucking Company: A Road Novel with Literary License - pretty interesting, didn't love it. A Yellow Raft in Blue Water - such an evocative title. I really liked this book. Don't Just Do Something, Sit There: A Mindfulness Retreat with Sylvia Boorstein - I like her titles and her books. Happiness Is an Inside Job: Practicing for a Joyful Life - another Boorstein title. All Over But the Shoutin' - loved the title, loved the book. That's a few more that I came up with.

If they aren't available there, I'll be searching for used copies online. You are all so wonderfully knowledgeable, thank you. Yes, The Turn of the Screw was FANTASTIC, thank you. But this time, I need something a bit (Just a bit) more modern. I'll check out the other Barbara Michaels, but they don't sound "traditionally ghostly" enough. The Kitchen Table forum has come through again! Peoniesandposies posted that she'd read it in a college lit course in the 1970's. And it's not by a "Sci-Fi" author at all. It's an E. M. Forster novella, "The Machine Stops", written in 1909! It's been made into a play and a BBC Four TV drama.

I loved JS&MN, so thanks for the heads up. The stories sound like they are similar to the fairy tales in the footnotes of the novel, which I really loved. I am putting it on my TBR and hope to get it from the library also. HA! The ad the came up with this thread is Barbie and the Twelve Dancing Princesses. How wierdly appropriate.
