Does anyone know this book?

I was at Borders yesterday and picked up a book - read the first few pages and liked it quite well. I meant to request it from the library, but did I write down the title or the author? No, of course I didn't. It is about a woman in her 40's who loses her husband (actually finds him lying on the floor), moves to an island off the Maine coast, gets a labrador retriever, and there is something about a man in the story too (naturally). This is a current book, on the shelf with Suite Francaise and Water for Elephants. My search of the NY Times bestseller list and Amazon have been fruitless. Has anyone seen this book?

I might have to drive back to Borders - quite a distance! It's driving me crazy.

I read the description of that book as well...I mean the flap...But already had too many books, and thought I would look for it on half.com...only I forgot the title as well.

A Soft Place to Fall by Bretton. It has a sail boat on the cover? I did a quick search on Amazon...and it seems to fit the bill.

There's a forum in there about indoor gardening or even greenhouse gardening. They might be able to point you to excellent books. I have a single tiered lighting table top lighting unit and I find growing plants under it pretty much straight forward and so can you clarify what kind of information are you seeking? And curiously, are there no books in the UK on this subject? Ianna

Yes thank you, I tried all these options. They could only turn up the Westfall or Mariano versions and it's not either of them. It must be pretty obscure which is why I came here, I thought maybe someone here might know it. It was only a 1980's publication. Thanks for your help, I'll keep looking. Luisa

South Florida....has a perfect climate for growing Adeniums - (with some precautions)....Adeniums don't like cold/damp soil and weather....but that may never be your problem in SW FL. Get yourself a packet of good seeds, and start growing your own plants...you will get many different colors/styles/shapes of blossoms, quickly, cheaply, and they are easy to germinate and grow. Seeds will most likely NOT produce plants exactly like the parent plants, but you will get some very good flowers from a batch of hybrid seeds. If you want larger plants, Home Depot, Lowe's, local garden centers, etc. Grafted, named-variety, plants are expensive and can be difficult to find. Many special varieties will have to be imported- which can be a real, PITA. Also try: "Top Tropicals"/Ft Myers, for grafted varieties "Living Sculptures Sanctuary" near Fort Lauderdale, "Wild Bill's Botanicals"/West Palm Beach, "Durham Botanicals", "Living Stones Nursery/Tucson, AZ/Lithops.net Adenium Rose/Miami,FL Plumeria Hut/Lithia, FL Happy hunting. Sort of the same, but that's not it. I think the cover was green, and it's a newly published book. I think the woman's husband was a veterinarian, and it's more of a change-of-life type book. I can't believe I can't remember the name, or even part of the name!

Coincidentally I was just searching yesterday
for an old book, one of those leave civilization
and live in the back woods of Maine type memoires...

Anyway, this might be it if it has a picture of
the lab on the cover...

You're quite welcome. When I was searching I couldn't
figure out how to limit it to nonfiction, so it was
showing fiction as well...and I noticed it because
I my eyes are drawn to green things and laboradors
I guess!
