I am very excited about this as Bradbury and this work in particular are favorites of mine. It goes without saying that Diana's adaptions are wonderful.

Vicky, the play should be available for a week from the date it was first aired.
Lauramarie, until very recently Halloween was never 'celebrated' at all over here and was considered very much a US thing. Gradually the supermarkets/stores have taken a commercial interest in it and now sell scary masks, pumpkins etc. Some trick or treating; but quite low-key.
Our big day/evening is Guy Fawkes/Bonfire Night which seems to have become an excuse for the letting off of bangers from about now until mid-Nov by mindless hooligans . . . although I do enjoy a good firework 'display', the huge bonfire with the 'guy' atop, eating charred sausages etc.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I know the story of how Guy Fawkes Day originated ... w/ a bang!

We in the U.S. live so close to Mexico, which has a holiday (or holy day) called The Day of the Dead. Not sure when it's celebrated, tho'. They go to the cemetary -- eat, light candles, decorate their families' graves. It's a very big deal. There are shops in New York City that have little home altars commemorating the dead. People put these in their homes. They are very colourful and quite charming. Some are hand-carved -- very artistic and original. Some day I'd like one ... to put into a home of my own.

Several times I've gone to the enormous Annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. It's one verrrrry long line of floats and even individual people walking north up Fifth Avenue through the Village wearing bizarre or beautiful costumes. Everyone is spectacular looking -- all colours, shapes, sizes of glitters, plumes, tulle, chiffon, wild makeup ... and those are the men!! The floats are put together with a lot of creative thought and effort you can tell -- they are so professional looking. A truly dazzling display where everybody has a good time! One year I took my visiting parents to it. They could hardly believe it -- a girl dressed as a margarita cocktail flirted as she passed by my Dad. He'd walked a few steps ahead of Mom and I. Hilarious!

Speaking of Guy Fawkes, my husband and I visited York on a trip to England a couple of years ago. The small hotel we stayed in was Guy Fawkes's childhood home.

Lots of Hispanic people here in California, so we hear about the Day of the Dead. It is related to All Saints Day but I think it spills over onto the next day.

Halloween here in the US has become so popular it is verging on outshining Christmas in popularity. Most younger adults (college age through mid 30's-ish) just love to dress up and celebrate.
