What's this poem please?

Last week I visited Gibraltar for the first time and was fascinated by, amongst other things, the apes - the barbary apes. They're small (about 18inches-2foot in length) and very still and like a strange imitation of mankind. They're quite sombre in a way. They're also funny - and people were laughing hysterically at them. I found myself, rather uncomfortably I must say, thinking of a poem which begins:

When I find myself agape,

Grinning at a barbary ape

I think it's English, early 20th centuryish, but can't be sure. I tried Google of course - but amazingly it turned up nothing! So please can anyone identify this poem?

(Other quotations which came to mind were,

Oh how I hate the human race,

Oh how I hate its ugly face!

and

I think I could go and live with the animals.

I haven't tried googling them yet. But you'll guess the turn of my mind from all this.)

Thanks in anticipation,

Best,

Dido
