This is first attempt at growing roses. I am worried about how to winterize them. They have only been in the ground since May/June. They came as bare roots. They are still flowering here in OKC. I have read to create a mound from soil/mulch. I don’t understand if I need to cover them with something or not? Also, I don’t want to prune them bc they are still babies lol. They haven’t grown much yet in size, only flowered. I don’t remember all the names of the ones I bought. I know I got Julia Childs, Dick Clark, and something from downtown Abby. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I sure love them!

I'm with Beth on the question of Paradise. Sorry I have no experience personally with Paradise Found or Dick Clark, though I have been curious about the latter this fall. Funny how widely divergent people's experiences can be with the same rose varieties. Paradise is a terrific rose for me, whether grafted on Dr. Huey or growing on its own roots. Actually, it is one of the more vigorous 20th century hybrid teas for me on its own roots. Blooms its fool head off; medium height but veerry bushy. Blooms are biggest for me in the first flush of spring. In subsequent flushes it blooms several dozen at a time, and that might be why the blooms are then smaller. But it consistently has good hybrid tea bloom form. It is moderately fragrant. Interesting --some say bizarre--color combination. Its only negative for me has been a bigger-than-typical sensitivity to chemicals; it chemical burns easily. As long as I remember to water thoroughly a few hours before spraying or applying miracle gro, it seems to be alright. Someone mentioned Double Delight. That rose is similarly sensitive to chemicals, at least in my experience. Mike

Here's mine. 4th year. LAst year all the leaves were big. It took a leap this year and now has a combo of some established stalks, plus the younger, smaller ones. Love this hosta. Good grower. I like the shape and bright colors. Stays kind of lower to the ground. Has this free-form shape to it...kind of oblong however it decides to grow in any given year. No one quality (shape, texture. form) is perfectly cohesive, but the differences are so subtle enough that the whole effect of the plant is not affected by the imperfections. If I was not a collector, I would have multiples of Dick Ward. I have bought & given Dick Ward as a gift a few times also. It never disappoints. Gayle

Dusting all my books? Perish the thought.... I'm another one who loves to re-read old favorites. I still want to re-read "Little Women" which was my childhood favorite. Also classics such as "Madame Bovary". As some of you know, I went through a major book purge when I relocated and downsized 2 and a half years ago. But I kept 5 bookcases! Now, from what I find at rummage sales and from what new friends keep giving me, I find my collection is growing once again! I guess I am just a book collector, at heart. And having worked in libraries most of my life, I am used to seeing myself in rooms surrounded by books. My New Year's resolution is to be more selective regarding the time I spend posting on these forums. I plan to stick with RP, but have been spending far too much time on another garden web forum.
