karalk, I'm not a mystery reader, but I can suggest a website that will show you similar authors -- just enter the name and you'll get a map of additional authors you might like.

You have named a few of my favorite mystery writers so you and I may have similar tastes in mysteries. I thought of a few you may enjoy:

Anna MacLean has a new series whose main character is Louisa May Alcott. I was hesitant at first but really enjoyed it. The first title is Louisa and the Missing Heiress.

Emily Brightwell's Mrs. Jeffries series is light and fun, very "cozy". I only suggest them because they are good in a pinch. I cannot read them one after the other because they are quite formulatic. But I like the characters.

Rhys Bowen's "Lady Georgiana" series, the first is Her Royal Spyness. There are five in this series with the sixth due out in September.

A "new-to-me" author named Ann Purser. She has two mystery series out, but the only one I've read so far is Hangman's Row Enquiry. I put her on my TBR list for my twice-weekly library trip.

Barbara Hamilton (aka Barbara Hambly) has a two series out, but the only one I've read is the one "starring" future first lady Abigail Adams, set in 18th century Boston. It is entitled: The Ninth Daughter.

Of course, M.C. Beaton's Hamish McBeth series is always a favorite, Elizabeth Ironside is a new favorite, Kate Sedley is a great mystery writer whose books are set in the middle ages, Sedley has about 20 in her Roger the Chapman series and I still feel that she cannot write fast enough for me!

If I think of any more, I will post again. Also, if you have not heard of this website previously, Stop You're Killing Me is a great mystery lover's resource. I shall post the link below.

KK, I like those authors, too. You might try Bruce Alexander. His series features the character Sir John Fielding, a blind magistrate and founder of the first police force in 1700s London, England.

Others are Rosemary Aubert, whose character is Ellis Portal, a former lawyer and judge convicted of a crime in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Deanna Raybourn who writes of Lady Julia Grey, a young widow in 1880s London, England; Cynthia Riggs with her character Victoria Trumbull, an astute 92-year old Vineyard native and deputy police officer, in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.
