When I read that Ray Bradbury had died, my twenty-three year old daughter asked who he was. I listed off several of his books. When I told her Something Wicked This Way Comes was one of those books that stay with you, she looked it up with her Kindle. One of the first reviews of the book said the same thing. She is ready to dive into Bradbury now.

I don't know if anyone bothers to read Ira Levin's Rosemary's Baby anymore. I read it one year right before Halloween, and it absolutely terrified me. Often as a special Halloween treat, I will read the M. R. James story "Oh, Whistle and I'll come for you my lad" every Halloween night, timing my reading so that I finish right before midnight. Never fails to spook me out. Susan Hill's The Lady in Black is also a good scare. I bought it on the recommendation of RPers, and it did not fail to give me goosebumps. A book which I think is really scary is J. Sheridan Le Fanu's Uncle Silas, though it does not strictly qualify as paranormal.

Recently, I watched a NOVA program on PBS about space and the universe. I was spellbound, but overwhelmed at the immensity of it all, so much so that I found it hard to comprehend. When there are billions of places in the universe, it can't be possible that none of them contain life--maybe not like us, but life in some form. That's why Neil Armstrong's and Neil degrasse Tyson's quotes resonate with me. As to Ray Manzarek's poem, I've eaten many ice cream cones, even planted a tree, but never played a slide trombone. I hope that doesn't mean I'll never be free! :<)

The Debussy quotes sound like his music or the other way around, love both of them. Cater-Bresson was interesting to me, since I have 2 professional photographers in the family and I forwarded the quotes to them. Thanks, Don. Whoever collected the Bradbury quotes seems to have just picked up whatever he could find somewhere. I rather read his books, again and again.
