Just saw "Midnight in Paris" this weekend, great movie! Now you've inspired me to stay with the theme!

Karalk, was Midnight in Paris in French? If so, did it have subtitles?

If you need to stay in Paris try "Valley Of Grace" by Marion Halligan, this book was to me as your novel "The Sweet Life In Paris" was to you, a great find, and rave!!!

Yvonne, is it a new book? I am going to try and find it at my library.

It was published in 2009, so it's relatively 'new'.
Re: Midnight in Paris...it is in english but there is some french spoken here and there. I'd like to hear from the RPers who have seen it.

David Lebovitz also has a beautiful blog full of everything French, including fabulous recipes. It is a feast for the eyes and tummy.

Hi All. I saw Midnight in Paris last week and enjoyed it very much. The shots of Paris are gorgeous and made me want to be back there. Seeing all the 1920s literary characters come to life was wonderful, and artists as well. It helps to have some knowledge of that time to enjoy the movie.

I just read The Paris Wife and then A Moveable Feast, so I am catching up on the Lost Generation.

I will look for this book as well. I also enjoyed Almost French.

Loved "Midnight in Paris." I'd like to see it again. Owen Wilson seemed a little dense, but he was in Marly and me also to maybe that's just his style.

Another one here who loved "Midnight in Paris." I thought Owen was terrific in his role and that the time travel was so cleverly done. I also liked Bates as Gertrude Stein. I've been a fan of Woody Allen films since way back when....

Now, if I could just find a copy of "The Paris Wife."

All right, I'm convinced. My husband and several friends insist that I must see Midnight in Paris. I have seen a number of Woody Allen movies over the years. I've never seen any that I liked at all, but I suppose I can give it one more try.

Speaking of the title of this thread, it makes me think of the parties called raves, with live DJs and generally held in abandoned warehouses or remote outdoor locations.

I was also not a fan of most WA movies, but according to a french friend in Paris, it is perhaps due to the fact that I have not seen his better films.

This one was refreshingly enjoyable .

I saw Midnight in Paris today with a like-minded traveler friend, and we both enjoyed it--more for the scenery than the story, but it was fun.

I enjoyed Midnight in Paris very much...the time travel was fascinating, the storyline was very clever and the costumes were wonderful. Kathy Bates was great. I, too, think Owen Wilson seemed dense in ways. I'm a Southerner, so his accent got to me, but that's just my opinion. I don't think the political commentary on his fiancee's parents was needed for the story. Did anyone else notice that Lea Seydoux who played Gabrielle looked eerily like Mia Farrow?

I believe Owen Wilson is from Texas.

I personally do not find their accent to be too Southern at all....just very Texan !

I just finished David McCullough's latest book "The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris" I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a book so much. It is the story of ambitious and talented Americans who went to Paris between 1830 and 1900. I had no idea so many Americans studied there. The book is fascinating and if you aren't a history buff (as I am not, particularly) it's a wonderful way to learn the history of the city during this era.
