My BookCrossing experience has been disappointing-I have released 15 books and never heard a word about any of them. So I stopped doing it-I use Paperbackswap and write inside the front cover From:PA To: wherever....and hope that gets kept up-I know that there is a way to link BC and PBS but I've never bothered to figure it out.

I used to use Book Crossing, but then so few people ever posted in about finding the books I released that I gave up. I would much rather send them to people on PaperBackSwap.com, who I know really want them--and then I get credits to use to order other people's books. What could be better? With BookCrossing, you never can be sure someone hasn't just stuffed the book in the trash because they were cleaning up the park or wherever you left it.

Oh, I hadn't heard about that. I figured BookCrossing would be disappointing. This does sound like a better way (assuming of course that the people getting the books are not then selling them on Ebay...)

As you have to give books to get books, I doubt that happens much. When I am finished with a PBS book, I either repost it or give it to the Library book sale.

Ah, looking at it, seems you get credits as you give, which allows to to take. Good system. I will try it.

Yes, it is a good system and a great site. If you ever run out of credits, you can buy more at slightly more than it would cost you to send out a book.
They have a relatively new feature, too, called "Box of Books" for people who want each other's books. (PBS swaps are usually not one-on-one, hence the need for credits.) When they have decided how many books, and which ones, they want from each other, they can swap without paying out any credits. I think this feature costs $8 a year and helps pay for the upkeep of the site.

Just be warned-the books will pile up on your TBR shelf alarmingly quickly-if I sat down now and didn't get up 'til September I wouldn't get through my PBS TBR pile! I started with 48 books "on offer" on my PBS list and have been a'mailin and a'gettin ever since.

Hee, well I figure, if it helps me whittle down some paperback, I could clear out a shelf or two, so it all evens out in the end.

I agree with the other posters. I've been a member of Bookcrossing.com for several years and haven't had any wild releases re-entered.

I started using Paperbackswap almost a year ago and I've already received around 70 books that were on my "have to read" list.

If you are willing to trade books internationally, I recommend Title Trader (Paperbackswap is for North America only). I find it frustrating how few people are willing to do international trades, and if you are willing to do so, please give TT a try.
