These are great to start seeds in. But only inside. There is no way to really heat or cool them for outside. I have 2 of them and have attached grow lights to the shelves. I have started several 1000 plants in them over the last 3 yrs. Start the seeds now, in the mini greenhouse, somewhere inside where the temp stays at least 55-60 degrees. Most, but not all, seeds will do fine since the greenhouse with the lights will have a bit of a higher temp. Keep the plastic closed until your seeds start germinating and then open it up and leave it open. The seedlings will need the circulation and fresh air. Always water your seedlings from the bottom and just keep them damp not soaked. That helps tremendously with 'damping off'. I use mostly Jiffy 7 pellets to start my seeds in and have great results. I always put 1 teaspoon of crushed up, disolved calcuim in the water I use to initially saturate the pellets. Buy the cheapest calcium tablets you can find. I have found this to help have stronger plants. (Yes, I know it sounds hokey but it works) When you attach your lights use a method that you can lower and raise the lights. You will want to keep your lights about 2" - 3" above your seedlings to prevent them from getting too leggy trying to reach the light. I used a small chain that I bought from HD. Cost about $4. I have approximately $100 invested in each of my mini greenhouses. The savings of growing my own plants versus buying them has long ago paid for the initial investment. Hello, bmoser! I am coming a little late because I had first to translate your message. Thank you very much for your quite clever system of attachement! Here my explanations: "all clips are fixed" would mean, that the plastic-sheet has been put on and attached with metallic clips on the front-arches. Then we had to secure the plastic on the ground level before "burying" the ends into the trench. And this securing was the main factor of the problem. I admire your system although when it is not the same as the mine,(I need not wiggle wire section), but the your's is very, very clever and handsome-like! We have metallic strips in the same dimension as you have your firring strip, but in the forme of an "U", and the point of difficulty was, at what side the plastic has to be come. It was right when putting it at the métallic-side, whereon has to be attached a plastic rail together with a middle plastic-strip.This system is able to support the whole side of the plastic-cover-sheet. I am wondering if you understand my bad description. But just this to say that it was wrong - and like this we did in the first time! - to slide the plastic-sheet between the plastic rail and the middle strip. That was cutting the plastic just like a cutter does! Fortunately we could repair this error with a special scotch-sheet for plastic-tunnels and correct our strong mistake. Hi Carole, That is the method I've used for years for starting Daylily and Amaryllis seeds under ligths in 4 inch square pots. With those I remove the bag when the leaves hit the top and then transplant when they hit the lights. For both of these I use a 4x4 grid for the seed planting. For the Daylilies I plant the seed an inch deep, for the Amaryllis I plant them vertically in an inch of builder's sand on top of the soil, leaving just an edge of the seed showing so I can tell where it is :) In the future I will add wick watering since I've rediscovered its usefulness.
