Neither of the Poinsettas I bought last year made it to this year. All their leaves fell of then the stems got brown and wrinkly, but not mushy. Perhaps drying out too much? Anyways, I bought another one today. It's in a 4in plastic pot, full and luscious and the bracts are pink edged in cream. I'll post a pic later today if I remember. It's really quite beautiful. I'm heading back to the garden centre with my mother today (twice in one day, yes I'm addicted) and they had little tiny baby ones, so I may grab one of those while I'm there again. There were a few other plants there that I wanted but I ran out of money...so I'm brining my mother. Teehee. I'm an evil genious!

Hello! I'm growing my first crop as a Greenhouse/Nursery student this year and we do Point Trials for some breeders. Thought maybe you'd be interested in seeing some new cultivars and their progress so far, so I'm posting a link to our site. Never was much of a fan of points to be honest, but I'm having TONS of fun with this!!! I've developed a huge appreciation for them, it may not develop into a passion for me, but I am enjoying it for now. I'm also very excited to see your drive (and success!!!) to do this from home!!! Kudos you guys!!! The "Pointsettia Trials" Tab at the top of the page takes you to the list of what we have. Each cultivar has weekly photos every Friday and we will write up bios on each one here pretty soon. You can also look at completed trials from '05 and '06. Feedback is welcome! goodhors has the right idea. I grow poinsettias as a crop and this is how I tell anyone who enquires the easiest and surest way to keep them over and make them bloom again at the appropriate time. Treated this way, they are no different or any more difficult than any other houseplant. We talk about 'treatments' to get them to bloom. The treatment is simply to expose them to natural lighting conditions. IOW dark when it's dark outside and light when it's light outside. Doesn't get much simpler than that, if you have a spare room and don't turn on the lights in there after darkness naturally sets in. Why would anyone want to keep a poinsettia over if they're readily available? Well, why do you want to propagate any perennial when you can prolly go out and buy a four inch pot for less than ten dollars, LOL? Or pick seeds for next year out of your garden, or winter over a coleus. All questions we have seen on this forum and nobody thinks those questions are silly or suggests they pitch their plant and just get a new one. I'll tell you one reason I have kept over poinsettias for several years, and that is to make standards "topiaries" out of them. The stemm gets woody like a small tree, and the top can be pinched out to a globe form. They're exquisite, and I wouldn't sell one for less than thirty five dollars. It can only be done with plants 'kept over'.

Well, from Nine Points I'm now down to Four and they are... Draven (My Big Point that I wrote my Diary on, Red) Sliver Star Red (Variegated Leaves Red Bracts) Winter Rose (Curly leaves and Bracts, Red) Bonsai Point (The one I rescued from Granny's, Red) Who Else here still has there's?
