Paul, I actually planted a couple on the ground last year, but since we have been in a drought, I forgot to handwater it as often as I should, so it didn't do too well. Plus we had a few nights of cold weather and didn't cover them. The potted ones I just brought in the house when it got cold and for some reason where I had them, I always made sure they got watered. The one that I planted in the ground are still alive but not doing too well, just kind of sitting there...The potted ones did much better, because I took care of it. My neighbor down the street has one that's over 4 ft tall, and is doing very well. Maybe I will try it again...

Hello! I'm growing my first crop as a Greenhouse/Nursery student this year and we do Point Trials for some breeders. Thought maybe you'd be interested in seeing some new cultivars and their progress so far, so I'm posting a link to our site. Never was much of a fan of points to be honest, but I'm having TONS of fun with this!!! I've developed a huge appreciation for them, it may not develop into a passion for me, but I am enjoying it for now. I'm also very excited to see your drive (and success!!!) to do this from home!!! Is anyone still there? I just want to say good work to all that posted with their points. I too am a beginner with poinsettias this year. I bought two and now one has started growing even with its red bracts and a fair amount of original leaves that it was bought with. I am so excited.I cut it back to about 8" last week.(it was probably a bit premature.)Now it is starting to produce all kinds of leaves and really looking good. The second point that I have is still just "there" neither growing nor dying. I have moved it to the same window that the first point had so much growth in but it is still dorment looking.(which is fine since I hear they need it.) If it doesn't snap out of it by march shoud I cut back it anyway and bring it out of "dormancy?" It still has it's red bracts but almost no green leaves. Ninecrow how are your two poinsettias doing? Do you let them go dorment after flowering? thanks

I guess "hard cutback" is relative. ;-) It was 5 1/2 feet tall and I cut it back to 3 feet back in May. It looked pretty much like the first pic at the top of this thread and it has grown some since then. tj
