If they didn't eat the bulb the lily will return. Renee

The timing of your treatments is essential with weevils and in checking GrubEx, while it may have been helpful, seems you have missed the boat so to speak.:) Grub/larvae control should have taken place before Aug 1 with GrubEx if I'm reading the product correctly. Much the same with treating adults before they've laid eggs - that's been accomplished by late August too. You may not solve your problem this year, other than reducing adults to minimize any more notched foliage. Here is a link that might be useful: Rhododendron.org - weevils advice

I dealt with black vine weevils...not sure if the same thing, but I'm sure they are related. They would attack my honeysuckles, primarily. I did the squash approach (each evening, out with a flashlight), but that would be tricky on hostas. Have you tried beneficial nematodes for the grubs? We can't buy pesticides in Ontario, so I have tried those for other kinds of grubs. Problem is, it's so hard to know if they are working or not. I've also seen suggestions for sticky substances on the base of plants to catch them....like tape, or even honey. Again, that would be tough for hostas. But every adult you catch will limit next year's grubs somewhat. Edit: I love your Cracker Crumbs! I've been looking for something to brighten up my shade garden. I'll have to go find one. :)

Living in an area where root weevils (both black vine and strawberry) are nearly omnipresent, I can say with some certainty that control is not fast nor easy nor complete!! As a consulting horticulturist, this is an issue I come into contact with on a daily basis! Adult weevils can damage rhododendrons and other broadleaved evergreen shrubs but the damage is almost always cosmetic only. The larvae seldom affects any established rhododendron or other shrubs and the populations required to do so would be staggeringly enormous!! Containerized plant are a bit different. But the larvae can and does kill heucheras, as well as bergenia, strawberries, clematis and grapes. In order to effect any sort of control you need to take a two pronged approach and attack both the adults and the larvae. Adults are nocturnal, don't fly and are easily trapped. You can use rolled up corrugated cardboard placed by the affected plants overnight. In the morning, collect and destroy in a bucket of soapy water or diluted bleach. They can also be collected by using tanglefoot or sticky tape around the base of the plant (however, this is not practical with herbaceous species like heuchera). Or hand pick the adults by going outside at dusk and checking eth underside of leaves on subject plants. And avoid using a wood-based mulch, as it is a great hiding place for adult weevils, as are any other woody surfaces, like tree bark, fences, wooden siding, etc. Spraying acephate (Orthene) is also a recommended control for adult wevils. The larvae can be effectively controlled by applying beneficial nematodes, however the timing of this application is critical. August through October is the recommended application time as the adults have laid the eggs which hatch at that time into the larvae that overwinter in the soil. This is not a gets-all, one time solution. It will have to be repeated annually in any areas where root weevils are prevalent. With regards specifically to heucheras, it is recommended to dig up any affected plants or even healthy plants in the general area, cultivate the soil to expose any larvae, drench the soil with boiling water and replant (discarding any plants with minimal roots showing). Mulch with sand or gravel rather than bark or other woody mulches - this discourages th adults and restricts their egg laying.
