This plant is beautiful but don't plant it too close to other perennials because it spreads over time with tenacious roots. I have been pulling out leaves and roots popping up all summer from a huge plant I dug out this spring. The root of the main plant was 3" thick. It keeps putting up leaves all over a 4 foot space and I pull them everyday to try to get rid of this. I planted it out in a meadow where it can do what it wants. I love the flowers but the bloom only lasts a few weeks and isn't worth the space it takes up in my average size garden. Leaves are nothing significant, just green. The flower stems are very tall even in full sun. Where I live it dies down over winter with ratty looking leaves, and I have to cut it back to the ground.

I think the flowers are supposed to be slightly larger on 'Andrea' and it may be a bit shorter to reduce the need for staking. My opinion is that 'Honorine Jobert' has survived as long as it has for a reason -- it is probably the best Japanese Anemone available and definitely the best white one. Armitage claims that 'Honorine Jobert' may be the same as 'Alba' but 'Andrea Atkinson' is a distinct cultivar as far as I know.

My 'Honorine Jobert' are now entering their 8th week of full bloom and still have a lot of buds forming! I am so impressed with these this year, but we have had a much cooler than normal fall, so I wonder if that has contributed to the extended bloom season. Just a couple of thoughts, some of my plants were purchased from a local garden center. They were overflowing in 1 gallon pots with multiple crowns (at least 10 in each clump). These plants seemed to establish quicker and are doing much better than others planted at exactly the same time in the same location obtained through mail order which were much smaller (1-2 crowns growing in quart-sized pots). I wonder if anemones are one of those plants which struggle if the divisions are too small? If any of you have the option, try to go for the absolutely largest plants you can find!

that's pretty aggressive for a slug... but you guys grow some monsters out your way .... lol ... i would pull back the mulch and look for some type of caterpillar ... like a ring worm or something ... i find them in my hosta every year .... long before it is warm enough for the slugs to be over active .... also .. take the flashlight out at night .... and see what you can find, once the mulch is back ..... you would be amazed what one or two ravenous vermin can do .... if it was anything that was able to move fast and far.. it would be attacking other things.. which leads me to think it is a slow moving thing within that little area of impact... once you find it.. squish it ... if its only one or two.. no need for chemicals ... or over reaction good luck ken
