Gable end treatment?
Comments (2)You are correct in describing the porch/arborvitae. The west side of the house is the side with the prevailing winds. There is a road that parallels that side and two trees are planted closer to the road about 30 or so feet from the west side of the house. Between these trees and the arborvitaes there is only grass thus "a mowing corridor" approximately 30 feet wide. I wondered what to do once the second arborvitae is removed (to see out the windows) since the winds will be even worse in winter and during any strong storms. So, my question is partly, do I plant a wind screen of some kind across that 30 foot corridors. I have been thinking about the porch trellis idea at the western end of the porch since I have a climbing rose planted there that will need support. Thank you for your input. Suji...See MoreCalc. Comments (18)@kandrewspa thanks for your comments. The house will be our primary residence and we will live it year around. We have also been thinking the design looks too much like a typical house seen in many suburban developments and doesn't necessarily "feel" like a lake house. However, choices for exterior materials can and will change the look and feel. For example, we were thinking most of the siding would be shakes and which parts of the exterior gets stone hasn't been decided. One thing I have learned through this process is it finding the right design / architectural professionals is a challenge. For years, so many architects have been designing "tract houses" ... so the design starts to resemble what they are used to doing ... and keeps getting "pulled" towards a tract house. The back elevation does have quite a few windows and a balcony on the 2nd floor overlooking the lake. The lake view is really beautiful....See MoreUser
