ha, Thornapple, aka Jimson Weed - those of us familiar with Carlos Castaneda, back in the 60s and 70s may well have tales of various drug experiments. Having tried datura once, never again. 72 hours of twitchy, half-blind paranoid hallucinatory anxiety. I remember us all rushing to the pub, with terrible thirsts....and being unable to manage more than the tiniest sip. A couple of us were having parties in their heads, one of us was found some 13 miles away, eating a dandelion in a ditch, another was arrested but was having a made -up party in the police cell (passing imaginary joints and chatting with invisible mates). Once the weird twitches and neck jerks passed off, it was fairly eye-opening (I couldn't, in all honesty claim my consciousness was raised or anything) but it was a loooooong trip. Course, that was all back in the day - wouldn't dream of doing it now (I am so repressed, I would probably rush, nakedly into the street, shouting 'out, demons out' or summat like).

I posted on your Plant ID forum thread; here is my reply. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/namegal/msg0121502231960.html?15 That's probably Red Mulberry (Morus rubra) given the very limited information provided. wgreenlee1 could assist by saying WHERE these plants are growing. From your post here on Trees, I'm going to surmise Missouri - where Red Mulberry would be perfectly at home. I am pretty sure that there are no Tilia sp. with this kind of bark characteristics. It doesn't fit any of the birches either. Not even close on poplar or cottonwood (Populus sp.). Since these plants have been observed by you over a long period of time, I'm certain you would have observed Tilia flowers in passing. You should have seen Mulberry flowers, too - whether male or female. This tree is plenty old to have flowered. Those leaves look large enough, within the range of morphology, and appear coarse enough (along with the written description) to fit right in with Red Mulberry. Lobed leaves are just one expression of Mulberry species leaves, but not the only expression. Your location is significant in answering your question, and additional images of the dormant features like buds, stems, and - be still my heart - the WHOLE tree, make a huge difference in offering lucid opinions to the identity of this tree. Here's an old Red Mulberry trunk for comparison.

Thank you very much for the ID's. The first one is near the spot where I saw the bad-looking P. mugo subsp. rotunda about which I asked an ID too. At first I though they were both the same species because they looked similar, but when I went too look closer then I could see the cones were definitely different. Funny part is that someone else suggested in that thread where I asked for an ID that it could be P. thunbergii. So I guess both trees are similar looking indeed. The second one I think comes from a hedge close-by that was (I think) never trimmed and therefore started producing cones. The third one is almost a miracle to me. Closest Abies koreana that I'm aware of is at least a few hundred meters away from where I found it. I'm very glad I dug it out too because A. koreana was also on my wanted list. :)

Hi Casa, image shows that its a kind of succulent plant. I don't know exactly the name of this plant but you can explore from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succulent_plant All the best!
