I have aquired -somewhat in the nature of the underground gardeners, about 300 feet of clay border. It is council owned land and has been treated by who knows what variety of Agent Orange up to now.

I planted some bulbs last year but either the cold or wet got to them but I suspect the dolts the council use for gardening just slapped theire happymess all over them.

They seemed to have got the message by late summer when the heatwave and the late spring got the better of the flower seeds I planted.

So now I am after tips to plant. Gladioli and Nasturtiums did well and I will be planting more. They look lovelly together. I got hold of a lilly like bulb called Fire or Flame something or other but they went in in the heat and dry so didn't do too well.

I need stuff that likes dry clay. Preferably stuff that I can just leave once I get it started. I can't really afford to plant shrubs and bushes. Maybe once in a while I will get a Rose or a Fushia.

I gather both do well from cuttings so that will be a big help. As it isn't my proerty and I am always at risjk from idiots with spray poison, I need something in the borders that look as unweedlike as possible.

I think the morons and jobs-worthies will ignore common sense otherwise. Mos tof the neighbours are happy with my efforts so far though I suspect one spiteful oik of vandalism.

He may do it again but now that everyone else is aware of the problem I might get some help looking after it.

I don't know my Zone but it is in the North Midlands, England. Just out of the black country and short of the rich Cheshire soils.
