Hi all, its been a while since I posted on the pandan. The pandan plants I bought in this post died. I bought another two bare root about 6 months ago from Gardin's nuresery but those two died also after I planted them in pots. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm not willing to invest in unpotted/bare root plants any longer. I'm researching who has this plant that they can ship potted. If anyone knows a source please let me know. As usual the potted plants are quite expensive, the best I could find was $35 for a one gallon not including any shipping charges. Another I found was $35 for a 2 gallon pot but $25 for shipping so $60 for a two gallon potted plant. If I were assured the plant would survive and grow once it arrived I might splurge and buy one but these plants in my hands seem to be fragile. If anyone can help with maybe a farmers market or Asian supermarket that has these for sale please let me know. I am in the Bay area SF area and willing to drive as far as San Jose to obtain a potted plant. Thanks Meixue

Hi, just now in a process in my life where I am wanting to grow Pandanas my self. As of now I have a Hala Pandanas fruit and need to get some of the seeds growing. I'm doing this for future Pandanas at a bird wildlife sanctuary in Hawaii . I know its a long shot, but do you have any advice from your trial run experience in 2005, with growing pandanas from seed, germination requirements and likely time to germination, also any special seed pre treatment. Any information on your experience would be greatly appreciated. :)

You can pull the whole shoot straight out from the main plant of dirt. Pot it up in Miracle Grow potting soil. Then submerge the pot in water up to the soil line of the new pot. The water temperature must not be below 70 degrees over night to be safe. If you change the water once every month, you will find that Pandanus Amaryllifolius loves water! Since you are in 5b, you can only do this during the summer months. If the offshoot is attached to the mother plant above the soil line, you should wait until you see aerial roots attached to the offshoots. During the spring and summer, submerge the pot to encourage roots formation. The offshoot that forms in the soil is coming from the roots of the mother plant. You can pull those up with roots attached to them. Again, the best bet is soak the pot, then pull straight up.
