I just bought a 4" pot of this beautiful clover from a nursery here in Charlotte NC. It's going to stay in my sunny quilt room until the weather warms a bit more. Then I'll prob. have to grow it in a raised pot as I'm sure the rabbits would love it as much as I do. I have also bought this same plant when we lived in Mason, Ohio and both times they were placed in a group of other low-growing plants called "Step-ables" "Toe Ticklers" - the "walk-on-me" type of plants that are sold. I haven't seen any seeds for them, but then I've never seen clover go to seed. Clover sends out runners and lots of them! Hope you can find some, they really are wonderful, even for the foliage alone!

kudzu- Yeah, that's basically what I'm thinking too (overdrive myself crazy/er). Seems like maybe 2 or 3 max temperature ranges should get most of us pro or not, where we need to be. Seems like there would definitely be specific temp needs for heat and cold lovers, but what else? I'm figuring germinate at room temp in the house with and without a heat mat for the heat lovers and forget the thermostat. Germinate in the garage with and without a heat mat equals 4 possible ranges probably around 10 degrees apart for the times when seedlings would need to be germinated for transplanting out at later dates whether they are heat or cold lovers. Now the garage temps will not be as stable as the house temps (unless supplemental heat is used) but maybe that's not really a problem since it would be more in keeping with the way nature does things anyway. Anyway, if you consider that house temp AROUND 70 you end up with the following.... Note however this is AIR temp and I need to look into this further as far as soil temps are concerned. House with heat mat 80 +/- (relaively stable) House without heat mat 70 +/- (relatively stable) Garage with heat mat 60 +/- (will vary without heat) Garage without heat mat 50 +/- (will vary without heat) Was kind of thinking that maybe with the HID lighting I could maybe use the heat they give off and in the garage it could be a beneficial thing..... maybe. Only prob, not as controllable as I would like. May end up having to supplement with AC or something in summer. The saga continues. Would really like to get to where I can do everything (germination included) in my unheated garage, but I'm too chicken to try that just yet.

West9491, Because coleus seeds are so small to start with, it takes the seedlings a while to "take off". During the early phase of plant growth, the growth rate is proportional to the plant size, so tiny plants grow slowly at first, and then speed up progressively as they grow larger. Then it becomes time to think about nutrition. I think your day length is too short. Some people actually leave their lights on all the time at first. I usually set my timers at 16 or 17 hours of light. Another thing to think about is the temperature of your growing medium. It might be a good idea to measure that with some sort of thermometer. MM

There are so many sites to visit and many different places here. In San Diego where it is warm most of the year I just pot the cuttings which I'ce learned that you have a better chance if the cutting is atleast the size of your pinkie. I've always put cuttings in water till they leaved out but sometimes a cutting with root hormone and just a dab can grow right in the ground but they take a long time to root and will not be needing any fertilizer and never too much water or they rot. I use a mixture of Vermiculite, Supersoil potting and a Supersoil cactus mixture with charcoal at the base of the pot. I have my pots which I've washed well and rinsed in Dawn dish soap none of this bleach stuff like I read in the past that kills the cutting before it has a chance. The whole thing is pretty iffy but always worth a try as an experiment. Have fun !
