Hi, Does any one know how to successfully propagate Global Artichokes? I have 5 - 6 small 6" plants that have come from the base of this years plant (now chopped down to ground level as all flower heads have been eaten) but when I went to separate them from the main stem they didn't have any roots and seemed to be taking all their nourishment from the main steam so I don't know what to do. The one that I broke away from the main stem is now jammed in a plant pot with damp soil in the vain hope it might take...... Usually a strain is not as stable, genetically speaking, as a named variety, but there are no set rules on this. Most strains are seed-propagated, but not always, as in Jerusalem artichokes. You can give a strain a name and call it a variety.

heres how you do it.. you find the latin name.. instead of some obscure tertiary name for a Jerusalem artichoke [secondary name] .... and then you go to google.. and add 'propagation of' .. in front of the latin .... and you end up at the link ... when i tried simply your title.. i see your post here.. and one in the rose forum ... whats that all about ... i understand you are looking for one with experience.. but after 4 days.. it appears there isnt anyone here.. at least who knows it by a third level common name .. there is a reason for using latin names.. and that is so peeps can understand what plant you are referring too ... so as to avoid common or regional names... in other words.. had your title referred to the latin name.. you might get more and more precise answers ... good luck.. and have fun.. i dont have time to read the links and answer your specific question ... ken ps: and you watch.. after 4 days of no answer.. now that i answered.. someone is going to be curious.. and come in with an answer.. that never fails to mystify me.. lol ...
