err just a minor point a poinsettia wont be colouring up again yet since xmas. Colouring naturally starts late autumn time. Prune them back now if not already done and pot on. On a side note get those christmas present lists started. We just potted our 2005 poinsettia crop last week-all 800 of them. jingle bells jingle bells!!!!!

Yes I have just looked at your link-it's err unusual shall we say. I guess the next step would be a web cam filming your poinsettia !!!
Our Poinsettias had a bad day today at work. The temp hit 115 F in the glasshouse while the young potted cuttings lacked the correct moisture level-I predict some could be alittle crunchy in the coming days. It's a fine line to walk in their early life.
Colourwise we will not be offering such a complete range this year due to our cutting supplier changing there supplier.
We have lost Burgandy due to this along with two veriagated leaved types which were very good also.
I guess that leaves various red types, pink, speckled salmony pink, cream/white and bicolour cream and white (if the cuttings arrive).
As for Winter Rose I am not aware of it's sale in the UK. It was on the market for a year or so a few years ago and I picked one up after Xmas one year for 50p which we still grow as a novalty plant at work (Infact I watered it today) It's a strange plant with an unusual growth habit. There are a number of colours available when you look on breeders websites.

Couple of Years ago I had one with Red Bracts, but with variegated leaves... Wonder if that was Jingle Bells... Haven't seen on since and didn't manage to keep it for the next Year... I was and am Still Not happy that it Died on me!

I was thinking maybe you could have the full range of colours and then run some kind of big brother show via your poinsettia diary-you know vote off the least attractive each week.
As for Jingle Bells if memmory serves me right that plant was green leaved with red bracts and pink spots-lets just say it wasnt popular. The veriagated type we grew was called Silverstar which came in red and a bicolour pink/cream.
As for Winter rose it has a funny growth habbit meaning you tend to need more than one per pot which maybe doesnt make them cost effective. The bracts can be alittle miserable also.
As for where I am based the nursery I work for is based in Derbyshire. I guess I cannot say where as that could be looked on as advertising.

NineCrow sorry I thought that website currently carried info on Poinsettias but it would appear not-maybe soon.
As for naming plants to most customers a name is unimportant as they buy them in full flower so it isnt like they could get mixed up. Anyway we dont get labels with our cuttings and I am not writing them out 800 times.
As for Winter rose you know it was funny today-I noted some cuttings had fallen off into a tray-not sure what they will get used for! Our winter rose plant-well we have two are around 18 inches. As for feeding a balanced fert is fine but Tomorite could potentially give you a few more flowers.

Would Plantzzman as a commercial, experienced grower give all the details for growing Poinsettia so that they are first rate on Christmas day. Your replies so far have not given much away.

Now this may come as a shock and in some ways sounds very lame but I am unable to shed much light on the growing-from a colour point of view because ours just do it naturally because of where our nursery is.
The important period tends to be September/October which is when the plants initiate their flowers. When it goes dark outside your plant needs to be dark and when it is light it needs to be light.
Because the nursery I work at is in the middle of knowhere when we leave at night it naturally gets the right cycle as there are no street lights etc to cause a problem.
The plants should be watered as they need it-never get them to wet-allow them to dry between waterings but not to dry. You can always give them more but you cannot take water away. Use a liquid feed in this main growing season and dont forget to keep them away from cold draughs. Keep the plants nicely warm in the growing season and as the bracts enlarge reduce the warmth slightly so the colour does not fade or bleach-it also helps to keep the flowers on in the middles.

Ninecrows I guess anything is worth a try to get one. Sorry if the website doesnt currently show Xmas pot plants- I thought it did but then nursery websites are not my domain -get it domain.
I suggest maybe drop them an email October time when they (wink) will be more focused on the crop.
