Is there still green on the new frond, but it looks burned/dried/torched on the tips? If so it sounds like frizzletop. Was all of the previous growth otherwise healthy and deep green? or was it turning yellow? If it's frizzletop you can treat it with manganese and magnesium. I would also apply a well-balanced palm fertilizer as well when you add these. Queen Palms are very "hungry" palms and respond well and pretty quickly to this treatment. If the new growth is brown and dried up...then it sounds like you have the sudden death of Queen Palm disease that has been going around. It seemed to really spread after the hurricanes a few years back. Hope some of this helps! Why not supply a photo of your palm and a few closeups of the new growth???

That is great to hear. The weather we're suppsed to get will help. Sun and low high 70s-low 80s which they actually like better than the 90s we've had. I got sick of screwing around my pineapple plants so I put them in the ground in late April. The new shoots in the center started to pull out after some nights in the 30s. I noticed the other day that with all of this rain and heat they are starting to come back. I know they won't make it through the winter but they could look really good by the end of summer.

FYI- Majesty Palms are popular because Florida nurseries can grow them fast, from seed, stretched tall under greenhouse/shadehouse conditions, and fed through their watering systems with a constant-feed. I live just N of St Pete, and any more north of me, they are toast. In my sheltered microclimate yard (coast)they do ok. In St. Pete, surrounded by water on both sides, they thrive! They are HUNGRY palms, and Madagascar's soil is nutrient-rich which is one of the problems. I recommend NEVER growing them unless you want to constantly replace them. Triangles are a little more "safe", less demanding (Dypsis decaryi)I have a 30 footer in my front yard> Greg in New Port Richey FL z9b/10a

Sorry for your loss bearthompson, last winter has affected many gardeners. I am starting out with a new Trachy this spring, and will be adding lights next winter. I ordered some of the Mediteranean fan palms, and they are brown already. We had no frost, we had tons of rain. Wait a minute maybe the "mediteranean" fan palms need dry soil. My soil gets tons of rain. Unless we get a drought, which we had in the 80's. I know I can't grow tender plants, unless they are near a plug. I tried burlap on a windmill palm, it is brown. I will give it til June 7, 2014. If no green then, it's dead for sure. Bearthompson, you may need to replace yours, just be prepared for a quick cover, if need be next year. You may never see such carnage again, though. Wondering bearthompson, if you have any live oaks, how have they fared? Any near you looking bad/good?
