That looks like it is a nutrient deficiency. It maybe cold related. Give it a good feeding of palm fertilizer and water it in good. Young coconut palms are very sensitive to cold/cool weather. If it gets below around 50 degrees the roots shut down. So often later in spring/summer a leaf or 2 comes out distorted as it did not recieve adequate nutirents when the leaf was developing. It should grow out of it.

A coconut not doing it's own thing in the great outdoors in it's natural environment will eventually die, it's just the way it goes. Sure, it may last a year or two but eventually it'll just die. They need large pots, 50 gallon minimum for a small rooted plant and minimum 100 gallon for a tree. They are always growing so eventually your coconut will want to be bigger than the home you can give it is and it's just not going to survive. The best you can hope for is to enjoy it while it lasts and you can help it by spritzing with water to keep the humidity up and by keeping your airconditioning on a higher temperature but these are temporary measures leading to the inevitable. Anyone who tells you that you can have a potted coconut indoors in non-tropical climates is a bald-faced liar who likely doesn't live anywhere near where they actually grow.

ronalawn: You are right, wet soil holds heat longer, but it's the moisture that is the potential problem (especially in a container!), not so much the temperature: If a frost is anticipated, one way to avoid damage to things like fruit and vegetable crops is to keep the entire plant surface sprinkled with water - water is unique in that when it freezes it releases heat, so you can gain 1-2 degrees F of protection. Moist soil for tropical species in pots is different - the prevailing logic is that warmth-loving plants are inactive during periods of cold, during which time physiologic water needs are minimal, so if soil stays moist and the plant is not using the available water, there is the potential for introduction of rot (pathogenic bacteria and fungus thrive in cool, stagnant soil and plant defenses are probably reduced as well). I doubt very much that significant damage can occur in 1 or 2 days of non-ideal conditions, but a week might be a different story. Watering in the AM helps ensure the plant is utilizing the water during the warmer daytime, with the soil becoming drier by the time colder temps set in. A follow-up question is "well, what happens in the wild when it rains during cold weather?" The answers are A) it rarely gets cold enough for damage to occur, B) plants growing out in the soil benefit from much better drainage and/or C) in subtropical climates, the "cold" season often equates to the dry season. I hope my blabbering makes some sense :-) x

thats the typical look on a queen palm here in so cal if not taking care of properly but than again most people, not all mainly water them every so often. it might need a good soaking since there was no irrigation & if the ground looks really dry but i agree with TZ7 with the epsom salt and a slow release fertilizer. regular water & fert. should turn this palm around in no time, there are thousands of queen palms all around especially by where you live & if taking care of they look really beautiful! goodluck
