pinklady, don't fret and torment yourself, it could have gone either way. You did what you thought was right. Sometimes all a fish needs is a little TLC and it will come around. On the other hand sometimes the TLC isn't enough and you lose the fish. Winter is hard on the fish when they slow right down, not hibernating, but not moving to far or too fast.They can sort of tip over from time to time, making it look like they are in trouble. There again they may just be in trouble! It is a judgement call, there's times you win and other times you don't. Your okay! "Horton"

Mosquito dunks are available in the plant section of places like Lowes or Home Depot and at pond stores. They work really well and don't hurt the insects and animals that might drink from the pond.

Well the silly little masked fish are now a year old and appear to be koi. They have barbs so I think they must be koi. There are only two that made it, but they are by far outgrowing my comet fry from last. Funny that I ended up with koi without even buying any LOL. I had only comets and mosquitofish when these guys arrived. All I can figure is they must have come in a plant or something. Here are a couple of the pics I posted above that now have broken links. Fishie last year And here he is yesterday. His color has turned kind of an antique gold color. He is very pretty. Here he is next to one of the comet fry from last year. They were the same size last year. You can see how much he has outgrown the comet fry. I think he is about 6" long now.

They are goldfish fry. Shubunkin is a color not a breed and they don't breed true. Shubunkin/calico colored fry don't hatch dark but all other colors do even white.
